This is a remote position.
The R&D Director will take full ownership of the Germany R&D center’s overall operation, technology roadmap, team management and OEM technical communication. The role covers intelligent central control displays, ceiling passenger displays, full cockpit systems, automotive IoT and consumer electronic products. You will build a localized European R&D system, meet German OEM technical and quality standards, and drive overseas business expansion and technological innovation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Formulate 3–5 years technical roadmap aligned with BMW and Mercedes-Benz next-generation vehicle platforms, lead pre-research of automotive display, smart cockpit and IoT platform technologies, and promote cross-category technology reuse.
2. Serve as the core technical interface for premium German OEMs, responsible for requirement analysis, scheme review, project bidding, sample delivery, mass production problem solving and customer audit closure.
3. Oversee full-lifecycle R&D projects for automotive display, cockpit system and consumer electronic products, strictly implement APQP, V-model development process, DV/PV validation and PPAP mass production delivery.
4. Build and manage a diversified local German R&D team (hardware, software, optics, structure, testing and compliance), lead cross-border collaboration between China and Germany R&D teams.
5. Establish and implement ASPICE, ISO 26262, ISO 21434, VDA6.3/6.5 quality and safety systems, ensure full compliance with EU REACH, RoHS and local laboratory regulations.
6. Control overseas R&D budget, manpower and project costs, identify technical, supply chain and compliance risks, and deliver stable R&D ROI.
7. Establish cooperation with European chip, panel and third-party certification institutions, conduct joint pre-research, and accumulate overseas patents and core technical assets.
Benefits
1. Master’s degree or above in Electronic Engineering, Automotive Electronics, Display Optics, Embedded System, Automation or related fields; German Dipl.-Ing or PhD is preferred.
2. Minimum 12 years R&D experience in automotive display, smart cockpit and IoT consumer electronics; minimum 5 years overseas R&D team management experience. Proven track record in leading mass-production cockpit display projects for BMW/Mercedes-Benz platforms with complete Tier1 delivery experience.
3. In-depth knowledge of automotive display optics, hardware and embedded system development; proficient in AUTOSAR, automotive Ethernet, CAN FD; familiar with ISO 26262 functional safety, ISO 21434 cybersecurity and German VDA quality & validation standards.
4. Fluent in English for daily OEM communication; German B2 or above for local meeting, technical review and compliance negotiation. Valid EU/Germany work permit required.
5. Excellent cross-cultural management ability, OEM technical negotiation capability, multi-project control and high-pressure problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Working experience in top European automotive Tier1 (Bosch, Continental, Magneti Marelli, etc.); certified ISO 26262 Functional Safety Manager, ASPICE Assessor, VDA Internal Auditor or PMP; overseas patents in automotive display/IoT; mature resource network with European OEMs and upstream suppliers.
Disqualification Criteria
Candidates without BMW/Mercedes-Benz mass-production project experience, German communication ability, German automotive specification experience or overseas team management experience will not be considered.
