Key Responsibilities

Payroll Processing

  • Process wages, salaries, overtime, penalties, shift loadings, and allowances.
  • Review and validate timesheets, ensuring approvals are obtained before payroll cut-offs.
  • Manage new starter setups, employment changes, final pays, leave payouts, redundancies, and termination payments.
  • Process payroll adjustments, back pays, and out-of-cycle payments.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Interpret and apply relevant modern awards and employment classifications.
  • Ensure compliance with Fair Work, NES, superannuation, PAYG, and payroll legislation.
  • Manage STP Phase 2 reporting and end-of-year payroll finalisation.

  • Support workers' compensation declarations and portable long service leave obligations where applicable.

Reconciliation & Administration

  • Reconcile payroll to the General Ledger and prepare payroll journals.
  • Complete month-end and year-end payroll reconciliations.
  • Produce payroll, labour cost, leave liability, overtime, and headcount reports.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential payroll records and support audits.

Employee Support & Improvement

  • Act as the first point of contact for payroll, payslip, leave, and superannuation enquiries.
  • Partner with HR to support onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll systems, workflows, and processes.
  • Maintain payroll documentation and work instructions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce, Human Resources or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience managing end-to-end Australian payroll.
  • Proven hands-on experience using Employment Hero (essential).
  • Strong knowledge of modern awards and payroll compliance requirements.
  • Experience with STP Phase 2, PAYG withholding, and Superannuation Guarantee obligations.
  • Exposure to multi-state payroll tax requirements and statutory reporting.
  • Experience processing payroll for a workforce of 100+ employees preferred.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and reconciliations.
  • Ability to manage payroll reconciliations, reporting, and month-end processes.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to support employees with payroll queries.
