About the Role:
We are looking for a Software Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Android Framework (AOSP/AAOS) to develop, integrate, debug, and maintain platform features for automotive products. The candidate will work closely with system, middleware, and application teams to deliver stable and performant platform functionality.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain Android Framework and System Services (e.g., framework/base, services, system_server components).
  • Debug complex platform issues using logcat, traces (systrace/perfetto), tombstones, ANR traces, and native crash analysis.
  • Integrate and support Automotive Android components (AAOS) and collaborate with HAL teams (AIDL/HIDL), including VHAL where applicable.
  • Work on multi-user, power management, input, display/multi-display, and system performance optimizations (as per product needs).
  • Ensure platform quality via unit/instrumentation tests and Android compatibility validation (CTS/VTS as applicable).
  • Drive code quality through design reviews, code reviews, static analysis compliance, and CI improvements.
  • Participate in triage of customer issues, root cause analysis (RCA), and upstream/downstream patch management.

What You Need to be Successful

  • Strong programming skills in Java/Kotlin and C/C++.
  • Hands-on experience with Android Framework internals (Binder, system services, permissions model, build system).
  • Good understanding of Android build and tooling (Soong/Gradle, repo/git, debugging toolchain).
  • Experience with Linux fundamentals and OS concepts (processes/threads, memory, IPC, scheduling basics).
  • Solid debugging skills across Java + native layers; comfortable reading AOSP source and tracing call flows.
  • Experience working in a structured delivery environment (defect tracking, code review, CI/CD, release branches).

What is Nice to Have

  • AAOS experience (CarService, Car APIs, VHAL, multi-display automotive use cases).
  • Experience with SELinux policy debugging, init/rc services, and performance tuning on embedded targets.
  • Familiarity with compliance/security practices and resolving static analysis findings.
  • Experience with automotive product integration and collaboration across distributed teams.

What Makes You Eligible

  • Strong ownership, analytical problem-solving, and communication across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to handle ambiguous issues, prioritize effectively, and deliver in release-driven timelines.

What We Offer

  • Flexible work environment, allowing for full-time remote work globally for positions that can be performed outside a HARMAN or customer location.

  • Access to employee discounts on world-class Harman and Samsung products (JBL, HARMAN Kardon, AKG, etc.)

  • Extensive training opportunities through our own HARMAN University

  • Competitive wellness benefits

  • Tuition reimbursement

  • “Be Brilliant” employee recognition and rewards program.

  • An inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages professional and personal development.
