Study Smart Tutors offers an array of college access courses at no cost to our students or their families.We are able to accomplish this by partnering with schools, outreach programs, and other college and career access organizations to provide efficient and effective college and career access programming and classroom-based test preparation. 

Position: Associate Director of Business Development

The Associate Director of Business Development is a strategic, high-impact role focused on growing business from awarded state and district RFPs and targeting large districts across the country. This leader will pursue the expansion opportunities from existing wins, converting them into long-term, multi-site partnerships, as well as proactively identify and generate new business in enterprise districts. The Associate Director of Business Development will report into the Director of Partnership Development

The role requires deep knowledge of K–12 funding, procurement processes, and educational product lines—combined with a proven ability to sell consultatively and build trust with education leaders.

This position is remote, with a mix of virtual and in-person engagements. Candidates must be available to travel approximately 30–35% of the time.

Job Responsibilities

Business Growth & Sales (50%)

  • Pursue new business opportunities in key target states and districts, expanding contracts into multi-site or multi-year partnerships.
  • Proactively identify, prospect, and qualify enterprise-level sales opportunities within the K-12 education market.
  • Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation to contract execution.
  • Build and maintain a high-quality pipeline in Salesforce, accurately forecasting potential business.
  • Visit schools and districts to strengthen relationships and uncover new opportunities.

Partner Engagement & Relationship Management (20%)

  • Develop multi-level relationships with decision-makers, influencers, and stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, aligning district needs with the right product or service.
  • Share student impact data in conversations and proposals to reinforce value and credibility.

Funding & Market Expertise (20%)

  • Leverage K–12 funding sources (e.g., ESSA, Title I, Title III, ELOP, state initiatives) to position offerings effectively.
  • Act quickly on emerging funding opportunities and shifts in state/local priorities.

Internal Collaboration & Reporting  (10%)

  • Partner with Partnership Success, Academic Services, Curriculum, and RFP teams to align proposals with delivery capacity and program design.
  • Maintain accurate, timely updates in Salesforce and other internal systems.
  • Contribute to quarterly reporting on revenue, PO utilization, and partner retention.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in Education, Business, or related field.
  • 5+ years of business development or sales experience, with at least 3+ years selling into K-12 school district at the district or state level.
  • High-level relationships in key states for Study Smart Tutors’ including CA, NY, DC, MD, VA, GA, FL, TX, OR, AR, HI.
  • Proven track record of growing accounts from awarded RFPs or public sector contracts.
  • Proven track record of achieving or exceeding multi-million-dollar sales quotas.
  • Deep knowledge of K–12 education systems, funding, and procurement.
  • Strong consultative selling, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and productivity tools (Google Workspace/Microsoft Office).
