Associate (Attorney) - This is a Remote opportunity based in California - all applicants must be willing and able to work 9am-5pm Pacific time.
About the Role
We're a fast-growing tax law firm based in San Francisco, and we're looking for a California-licensed attorney with real tax controversy experience to join our team. This is a fully remote role (Pacific hours, 9am–5pm) working alongside a collaborative team of attorneys, tax professionals, and support staff who handle high-volume, high-impact client work - IRS audits, penalty abatement, tax resolution, and litigation.

What You'll Do
- Independently manage client matters from initial consultation through resolution - tax controversy, resolution, and audit matters
- Represent clients in IRS proceedings, state tax hearings, and court appearances, including motions and trial work when needed
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, working directly with them through complex, often high-stress tax situations
- Draft and review legal opinions, pleadings, motions, and discovery
- Partner closely with our tax department and accounting teams to deliver comprehensive service
- Mentor and oversee legal support staff on assigned matters
What You Bring
- Active California State Bar license (required)
- 8+ years practicing law, with at least 5 years specifically in tax law/tax controversy - audit representation, resolution work, or related experience
- Comfort working independently in a fast-paced, high-volume practice
- Experience with case management/CRM tools (we use Canopy) and standard legal research platforms
- Strong written and verbal communication - you'll be client-facing often
