About the Role

The Assessment Lead owns for the end-to-end planning, coordination, and execution of both virtual and in-person standardized assessment programs across an assigned portfolio of OpenEd programs. Serving as the primary subject matter expert for designated assessments, this role develops deep expertise in assessment requirements, administration protocols, testing platforms, and state-specific implementation expectations.

The Assessment Lead manages all operational aspects of assessment delivery, including test planning, scheduling, student rostering, proctor readiness, testing logistics, platform access, data management, score reporting, and compliance monitoring. Working closely with internal teams,, schools, and proctors, the Assessment Lead ensures testing events are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable requirements.

This role serves as the operational lead during active testing windows, facilitating successful testing experiences, resolving real-time issues, and ensuring timely and accurate assessment data and results. The Assessment Lead also partners with Student Success, Family Success, and other stakeholders to provide assessment guidance, resources, reporting, and support throughout the assessment lifecycle.

Occasional travel to testing locations (e.g., schools, libraries, hotels), may be required during peak testing periods, with potential for overnight stays.

Previous school-based experience implementing standardized testing and valid teaching credentials highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the subject matter expert on each assessment, testing requirements, assessment details, testing implementation specifics, proctor requirements, and related details for all assessments and testing events for assigned OpenEd programs (Schools of Enrollment)

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to leadership by delivering data-driven assessment recommendations and taking full ownership of their end-to-end implementation across assigned OpenEd programs

  • Interpret state assessment requirements, testing regulations, and administration protocols for assigned programs and determine operational implementation approaches that ensure compliance and successful assessment delivery.

  • Ensure access to all related platforms and tools for each assessment event (district log-ins, scheduling tool access, proctor training modules, assessment reporting platforms, etc.)

  • Identify technical needs for proctors, students, and families for all assigned testing events (hardware, software, credentials, system access, etc.); ensure access to stakeholders prior to testing events

  • Work with Assessment Team scheduling representative to oversee the accurate set-up and entry of scheduling schedules with corresponding proctor assignments within OpenEd scheduling tools, prior to test windows

  • Analyze participation trends and testing demand and recommend staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation strategies.

  • Based on the schedule, identify proctor needs (type, number, qualifications and schedules) in advance of testing events; share needs with Proctor Manager/Scheduler with sufficient notice to fulfill the vacancies with prepared and qualified proctors

  • Direct and coordinate the work of selected proctors during assessment events

  • Independently identify assessment risks, evaluate potential solutions, and make recommendations regarding testing operations, resource allocation, scheduling strategy, and process improvements

  • Orchestrate live testing events; respond to proctor inquiries, ensure access to scheduled sessions, resolve real-time schedule conflicts and technical issues, deliver successful testing sessions for students

  • Serve as the on-duty Assessment Team Lead during all live/active testing events/windows; facilitate, troubleshoot, ensure successful completion

  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date data management and reporting related to each assessment event; monitor schedules and score entry; ensure data in designated systems and platforms is current, accurate, and available to related teams

  • Oversee score reporting, uploading to platform, and related post-assessment data needs

  • Evaluate assessment outcomes, identify operational risks and improvement opportunities, and recommend enhancements to assessment processes, procedures, and resource planning through post-assessment retrospectives

  • Prepare test preparation resources; ensure the Family Success team has access to test specifics, delivery protocols, and follow-up reports

  • Collaborate with Student Success team on pre and post-test support, communication, and resources

  • Collaborate internally with state-specific or assessment-related responses to external inquiries

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with K-12 state assessment programs and testing regulations.

  • Strong analytical skills with experience managing data, reporting, and system-based processes.

  • Experience working with databases, spreadsheets, and data management systems.

  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to travel periodically to support in-person testing events.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex requirements, exercise independent judgement, and make operational decisions affecting assessment compliance.

Preferred

  • Valid K-12 teacher license or certification (in assigned states)

  • Experience with student information systems, assessment platforms, or state testing systems.

  • Experience supporting virtual testing environments.

  • Project management experience in education, compliance, or operations environments.

  • Experience training or supporting staff in operational processes and procedures.

  • Assessment administrations are executed successfully, on time, and in compliance with applicable requirements.

  • Testing events demonstrate a high level of operational readiness and minimal disruptions.

  • Barriers to testing are identified and addressed in a timely manner.

  • Student rostering, testing records, and assessment reporting are accurate and completed within required timelines.

  • Compliance requirements are met with minimal testing irregularities or audit findings.

  • Assessment data is maintained with a high level of integrity and accuracy.

  • Students, families, proctors, and internal teams receive timely, accurate communication and support.

  • Assessment-related issues are resolved efficiently and escalated appropriately when necessary.

  • Risks are proactively identified and mitigated.

  • Assessment processes become increasingly scalable, efficient, and effective over time.

  • Recommendations for improvement contribute to stronger assessment operations and stakeholder outcomes.
