Area Representative

International Student Exchange | Indianapolis, Indiana

Pan Atlantic Foundation | Flexible Part-Time | 1099 Independent Contractor

$1,000 Per Successful Student Placement + Opportunities to Earn International Travel

Bring International Exchange to Central Indiana

Imagine helping a teenager from another country discover what everyday American life is really like—not from a tour bus, but by becoming part of a local family, attending an American high school, making friends, going to football games, and experiencing the traditions of an Indiana community.

That's what an Area Representative helps make possible.

Pan Atlantic Foundation is seeking a motivated, people-oriented Area Representative in the Indianapolis area to recruit and support host families, develop relationships with local high schools, and help international exchange students become connected to their communities.

The territory will focus on Indianapolis and surrounding Central Indiana communities, including Plainfield, Avon, Terre Haute, Columbus, and nearby towns and school districts.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys people, community involvement, flexible work, and making a meaningful difference in the life of a young person.

The Role: Connect People, Schools & Cultures

As an Area Representative, you'll be the local connection between Pan Atlantic Foundation, host families, schools, and international students.

Your work will include three important areas:

Recruit Great Host Families

The right host family can completely change an exchange student's experience.

You'll help local families discover what hosting is all about and guide interested families through the process.

You may:

  • Promote international exchange opportunities through social media and community connections.
  • Talk with families who are interested in hosting.
  • Meet with prospective host families in their homes or community.
  • Explain program expectations and responsibilities.
  • Complete required host family interviews and approval steps.
  • Stay connected with families after they are approved.
  • Help families feel prepared for their student's arrival.
  • Maintain supportive relationships throughout the exchange.

You don't need hundreds of contacts to get started. You need the confidence to start conversations and the willingness to build relationships.

Open Doors With Local High Schools

A major part of the position is creating opportunities for international students to attend local high schools.

You'll work to establish relationships with:

  • School administrators
  • Guidance counselors
  • International student coordinators
  • Coaches
  • Teachers
  • Activity directors
  • Other school personnel

You may introduce schools to the exchange program, identify schools willing to consider students, assist with enrollment, and develop relationships that can lead to future placements.

The goal is to build a strong network of welcoming schools throughout Central Indiana.

Help Students Discover Central Indiana

For an international student, the little things often become the biggest memories.

Area Representatives can help students discover the unique experiences available throughout Central Indiana.

Depending on the student's interests and host family, that could include:

  • Exploring downtown Indianapolis and Monument Circle.
  • Experiencing an Indianapolis Colts, Pacers, Indians, or Indy Eleven event.
  • Discovering the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the traditions surrounding the Indy 500.
  • Visiting the Indianapolis Zoo, museums, parks, and cultural attractions.
  • Enjoying festivals, fairs, farmers markets, concerts, and community events.
  • Experiencing Indiana high school football, basketball, soccer, and other sports.
  • Exploring the growing communities of Plainfield and Avon.
  • Enjoying parks, trails, local restaurants, and community events throughout the western Indianapolis suburbs.
  • Discovering the history and attractions of Columbus, Indiana.
  • Connecting with the community and schools in Terre Haute and surrounding Wabash Valley communities.
  • Taking advantage of Central Indiana's easy access to other cities and regional attractions.

The goal isn't to create a tourist itinerary.

It's to help students experience real Indiana life—school spirit, family traditions, community events, sports, friendships, local food, and the everyday experiences they will remember long after they return home.

Support Students Throughout Their Exchange

Once a student arrives, you'll become an important local resource for both the student and host family.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Welcoming students into their new community.
  • Maintaining regular contact with students and host families.
  • Completing required supervision visits and check-ins.
  • Encouraging students to participate in school activities, clubs, sports, and community events.
  • Helping students adjust to their new environment.
  • Listening when questions or concerns arise.
  • Helping families navigate everyday challenges.
  • Communicating significant concerns to Pan Atlantic Foundation staff.
  • Helping create a safe, positive, and memorable exchange experience.

You won't be expected to do this alone. Pan Atlantic Foundation provides training, resources, and ongoing support.

Your Central Indiana Territory

The primary hiring location is Indianapolis, Indiana, with outreach and placement opportunities extending into surrounding communities.

Indianapolis

The state's largest city provides a tremendous variety of schools, families, community organizations, sports, cultural attractions, and opportunities for international students.

Plainfield & Western Indianapolis

Plainfield, Avon, Brownsburg, and surrounding communities offer growing school districts, active families, community events, sports, parks, and easy access to Indianapolis.

Columbus & South-Central Indiana

Columbus and surrounding communities provide opportunities to connect with schools and families outside the Indianapolis metropolitan area while giving students a different perspective on Indiana life.

Terre Haute & Western Indiana

Terre Haute serves as an important regional hub with surrounding communities and school districts that can provide additional opportunities for student placements.

Surrounding Communities

The territory can extend into smaller towns, suburbs, rural communities, and school districts surrounding these regional hubs.

You do not have to live directly in Indianapolis to apply.

We are interested in candidates throughout the territory who are willing to build relationships with local schools, families, and community organizations.

An established network is helpful—but a willingness to build one is even more important.

Who Will Thrive in This Position?

  • Comfortable working independently.
  • Good at building trust and maintaining relationships.
  • Resourceful when unexpected situations arise.
  • Interested in other cultures and international experiences.
  • Excited about becoming involved in the local community.

Your Previous Career Doesn't Have to Be in Exchange

Experience in the following areas can translate particularly well:

  • Education

  • Customer service
  • Youth programs
  • Community outreach
  • Human services
  • Counseling
  • Nonprofit organizations

International exchange experience is not required.

Pan Atlantic Foundation provides required training and ongoing support.

Flexible Work With a Purpose

This is not a traditional 9-to-5 job.

As an independent contractor, you'll have flexibility to organize your responsibilities around your existing schedule.

Your week might include:

Monday: Contacting a local school about an exchange student.

Tuesday: Working from home and following up with prospective host families.

Wednesday: Meeting a family interested in hosting.

Thursday: Checking in with a student.

Weekend: Attending a community event or school activity.

The amount of work will vary based on student placements, host family recruitment, school calendars, and student needs.

Some days happen at home. Some happen in the community. The most important part is making the connections.
