The Applications Programmer, Level III (Java) is a senior Java professional responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining complex Java-based applications supporting a federal regulatory submission platform. The role works with significant autonomy and independent judgment while providing technical direction to less experienced developers across all phases of the software development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
• Design, develop, test, and maintain complex Java-based applications and application programming interfaces supporting the platform and its interfacing systems. *• Contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle, delivering efficient, scalable, and secure applications that meet documented business and user needs. *• Provide guidance and technical direction to less experienced developers, including code review and enforcement of development standards. *• Develop and maintain middleware and integration components connecting the platform to interfacing agency systems and content, search, and messaging services. ^• Diagnose and resolve production defects and deliver minor enhancements against the operations and maintenance backlog. *• Support version upgrades of application server, framework, and library components, including remediation of breaking changes. ^• Prepare release artifacts and support coordinated releases with government data center and cloud engineering teams. ^• Implement secure coding practices and remediate findings from security scanning and Section 508 accessibility testing. ^
Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field. An additional four years of directly relevant Java development experience may substitute for the degree.
