Application Engineer, AI Delivery (Remote)

Position Summary

The Application Engineer, AI Delivery develops and supports production applications that enable the organization’s clinical research and business operations. Working from approved specifications and prototypes, this role uses AI-assisted and traditional development methods to deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable software.

The engineer owns the quality of each solution, including code validation, testing, deployment, documentation, and production support. This role also contributes to standards and reusable practices that improve the consistency and effectiveness of AI-assisted development.

This is a remote role. The salary range for this role is $110,000 - $140,000. However, base pay may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. 

Work Hours: M-F, 8am-5pm

Essential Responsibilities

• Independently convert approved prototypes, specifications, and business requirements into secure, maintainable, production-ready applications.
• Review application handoffs, identify functional and technical gaps, and collaborate with stakeholders to define an effective implementation approach.
• Translate requirements into structured development tasks and determine when to use AI-assisted development, direct coding, or a combination of methods.
• Develop and integrate application components, APIs, databases, data services, and system interfaces.
• Create and maintain repository instructions, reusable patterns, and technical references that improve AI-assisted development.
• Review, test, and validate all code, including AI-generated code, for functionality, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Develop automated tests and conduct code reviews to identify defects, edge cases, unsupported assumptions, and production risks.
• Coordinate release readiness, deployment, production stabilization, and resolution of application-level issues.
• Maintain technical, validation, testing, and traceability documentation for regulated systems.
• Follow security, privacy, data-handling, and AI-governance requirements.
• Collaborate with business, engineering, infrastructure, quality, and security partners throughout the application lifecycle.
• Evaluate emerging AI development capabilities and recommend improvements to team standards, tools, and workflows.
  

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
• Two (2) to four (4) years of software or application-development experience, including delivery of production applications in a team-based environment.
• Experience translating business requirements, functional specifications, or prototypes into production-ready software.
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted or agentic coding tools, including reviewing, testing, correcting, and validating generated code.
• Proficiency in at least two of the following: C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, or Java.
• Experience with application frameworks and development environments such as .NET, Flask, Node.js, React, or comparable technologies.
• Experience with APIs, system integrations, relational databases, SQL, Git, automated testing, and CI/CD practices.
• Experience troubleshooting application issues in development and production environments.
• Working knowledge of secure development, code review, error handling, logging, and maintainable software practices.
• Ability to independently resolve implementation ambiguity, assess technical risk, and communicate dependencies.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across business and technical teams.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Experience developing and supporting applications in healthcare, clinical research, or another regulated environment.
• Experience with Azure, CI/CD pipelines, API integrations, and relational databases.
• Familiarity with validation, traceability, change control, and audit-readiness requirements.
• Experience establishing reusable practices for AI-assisted software development.

Physical and Travel Requirements

• Ability to perform work requiring extended use of a computer and other standard office equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively through virtual meetings, written correspondence, and collaboration platforms.
• Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment.
• Occasional travel may be required for business meetings, training, or team activities.
