Application Architect - Brussels

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Application Architect to support the design, evolution, and integration of enterprise-grade information systems within a European Union institution. The selected consultant will play a key role in defining software architecture, designing scalable solutions, and supporting the implementation of modern application platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain enterprise application architectures.

• Analyse and improve existing systems and technical landscapes.

• Define architectural building blocks and integration patterns.

• Design application APIs and integration services (REST).

• Produce architecture documentation and technical specifications.

• Design data models and application workflows.

• Support implementation of authentication and authorization solutions.

• Collaborate with development teams in Agile/Scrum environments.

• Contribute to CI/CD and DevOps practices.

• Participate in technical workshops and stakeholder meetings.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 13 years of professional IT experience.

• Minimum 6 years in software development and information systems.

• Minimum 6 years of Java web application development.

• At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Spring Framework and REST APIs.

• Experience designing complex enterprise systems.

• Knowledge of:

  • Java 8+, Spring, JPA, Hibernate

  • Oracle Database and SQL

  • REST APIs and microservices

  • OAuth and security concepts

  • Docker, Jenkins, Git, CI/CD

  • UML and Enterprise Architecture

  • Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket

• Experience with Angular or Kendo UI.

• Strong communication skills in English.

Nice to Have

• Experience in EU institutions or highly regulated environments.

• Knowledge of banking, financial services, or regulatory systems.

• Scrum/Agile certifications.
