AI Summary

Lead the technical architecture and aircraft integration of computer-vision and video-analytics systems, including edge inference, camera and compute integration, validation, and sensor fusion. Guide a junior engineer and establish robust engineering practices for datasets, model evaluation, testing, documentation, and compliance with aviation safety and privacy requirements.

Job Description:

Join us to be part of the new Airbus UpNext strategic demonstrator paving the future of Aircraft Connectivity.

This demonstrator will accelerate the development of new technologies to bring tangible learnings to the business.

Designed as a talent incubator, Airbus UpNext is a place where you can act and think like a startup while building on the strong expertise of Airbus, a place where you are empowered to challenge and test new processes and ways of working.

This position comes with a limited contract (CDI-C) linked to the deliverable of the demo (estimated end date - end of February 2028), starting ASAP.

As the Lead AI, Video Analytics and Aircraft Integration Engineer, you will be working with the demonstrator team to develop vision based solutions on our different test/integration benches.

There are several industrial benches to be managed in this scope: ground / air / road benches, it is key to ensure the consistency between them.

This position is based in Toulouse, and we will collaborate with teams across Europe and an international partnership landscape.

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Take ownership of the technical architecture for moving the prototype from the lab to the aircraft: embedded or edge inference, latency and power budgets, and a deployable, updatable runtime.
  • Integrate the cameras and the on-board compute platform, and define the interfaces with other aircraft systems.
  • Build the validation process: reference datasets, metrics and calibration for the target installation.
  • Lead the introduction of new algorithms and new sensors, including multi-sensor fusion.
  • Set the engineering standards: testing, reproducibility, model versioning, CI. Guide and review the work of the junior computer vision engineer.
  • Work with the certification, safety and privacy stakeholders so that design choices hold up to aviation and GDPR review.
  • Build and maintain annotated datasets: frame extraction, labelling, quality checks and train/validation splits.
  • Train, fine-tune and evaluate models, and report results with clear metrics.
  • Implement and test new algorithms from the research literature in the existing Python codebase.
  • Write unit and regression tests and keep the documentation up to date.
  • Help to integrate the pipeline on the target hardware: running and benchmarking models, and diagnosing issues in video input and camera setup.
  • Help evaluate new sensors by recording data, checking quality and writing integration prototypes.

Your Boarding Pass

What you bring:

  • 5+ years of experience shipping machine-learning or computer-vision systems to production, with at least one deployment on edge or embedded hardware.
  • Strong Python. Solid PyTorch, plus ONNX and TensorRT or an equivalent inference-optimisation stack.
  • Practical experience with detection, tracking and multi-camera geometry.
  • Experience building evaluation pipelines: datasets, labelling, metrics, regression tests.
  • Comfortable working on Linux and with Docker. Able to write clean, tested, maintainable code.
  • Able to explain technical trade-offs clearly to non-specialists.
  • Experience with NVIDIA Jetson or similar edge platforms, GStreamer, or RTSP video pipelines.
  • Familiarity with 3D reconstruction or synthetic data for testing and validation.
  • Background in a regulated or safety-critical domain (aerospace, rail, automotive, medical) and with DO-178C / DO-254 or similar processes.
  • Experience with privacy-preserving video analytics.
  • Experience with sensor fusion or non-RGB sensors.
  • Curious, rigorous and able to document your work clearly.
  • Passion about technology, science.
  • Autonomy, Adaptability, Availability, Accountability.
  • Eagerness in working in an international, diverse and geographically located team.
  • Values of transparency, courage, humility, empathy.
  • English at negotiation level is mandatory.
  • Willingness to have fun.

What you get:

  • Pivotal Role in a Strategic Mission: play a key part in a project and participate in the Aviation Connectivity revolution.
  • Build Something that Last: Your work will create a high-value asset 💎 and learning contribution for Airbus’s future.
  • Develop Critical Competences: Acquire and develop a sound background in connectivity technologies, a field essential for the future of aerospace. This experience can provide a unique career development opportunity within Airbus.
  • Agile and Empowering Environment: Thrive in a work culture that empowers you to act and think like a start-up while being supported by the strong expertise of Airbus. 💪🏻 We value an eagerness to take initiative and propose efficient ways of working.
  • A Great Team and Culture: Be part of a high-achieving, experienced and fun team in a shared open-space office with highly skilled colleagues. We are guided by the “Care for Each Other” value.
  • Flexibility & Fun: Enjoy the ability to craft your calendar 🗓️ with flexible hours and the opportunity to work remotely, alongside regular UpNext community bonding events. And yes, we have complimentary freshly ground coffe ☕ and beverages 🧃

The responsibilities and the technical scope of the job might evolve according to the agile working environment of the project, so being flexible is important.
