Develop structured, defensible expert reports for construction disputes and insurance claims using the IRAC framework. Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate technical findings and documentation into professional reports for legal and insurance stakeholders.

Objective

Identify an experienced AEC expert report writer who can transform complex technical findings into clear, structured, defensible reports for construction disputes, insurance claims, surety matters, and litigation.

Profile Overview

The ideal writer has direct experience preparing formal expert reports at the intersection of architecture, engineering, construction, insurance, and law.

They must be able to translate verbal explanations, site findings, and supporting evidence into professional reports suitable for attorneys, insurers, judges, juries, and technical experts. Prior expert report writing experience is essential; general technical writing experience alone is insufficient.

Scope

  • Engagement: Ongoing, as-needed contract
  • Volume: Approximately 2 reports per quarter
  • Hours: Approximately 20 hours per quarter, with flexibility for revisions
  • Report Length: 5–30 pages, potentially with extensive appendices
  • Structure: Primary technical assessment and secondary economic impact analysis, as applicable

Responsibilities

  • Develop expert reports using the IRAC framework (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion).
  • Translate expert-provided findings, verbal briefings, and technical documentation into cohesive reports.
  • Address construction defects, performance failures, noncompliance, errors and omissions, and insurance/surety claims.
  • Document schedule delays, liquidated damages, remediation costs, and economic impacts.
  • Incorporate contract documents, building codes, photographs, and supporting evidence.
  • Collaborate with the subject matter expert on drafts and revisions while preserving independent technical conclusions.
  • Adapt report structure to client-specific requirements and maintain strict confidentiality.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Required: Demonstrated experience writing formal AEC expert reports for insurance, surety, construction disputes, or litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, engineering principles, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with IRAC and evidence-based expert reporting.
  • Ability to communicate complex findings accurately and efficiently.
  • Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA), or forensic/construction claims consulting background.
  • Experience in civil or mechanical engineering, construction delay analysis, and remediation cost assessments.

About the Client

The client is a specialized AEC professional providing forensic investigations, technical assessments, and expert consulting for complex construction, insurance, and litigation matters. They require an experienced writing partner who prioritizes accuracy, efficiency, confidentiality, and high-quality deliverables.
