Purpose Summary

Working from a home office, the School Counseling Operations Consultant will work as part of the School Counseling + Career Consulting Service Delivery team (C+C) to support programming which ensures that school counselors in Connections Academy schools have the vision and skills needed to implement a comprehensive counseling program.  This position will report to the C+C Director of School Service Delivery (Lead, Service Delivery Management)

 

IC25 (Advanced Specialist) Role Expectations

At IC25 (Advanced Specialist), this role is a highly skilled individual contributor who applies significant domain expertise in school counseling operations and college/career readiness to solve complex problems, independently deliver high-quality outcomes, and strengthen service delivery across partner schools. The Advanced Specialist is a trusted subject-matter expert, operates with strong autonomy, and provides mentorship and guidance to others without formal people-management responsibilities.

  • Owns complex workstreams end-to-end (planning, execution, continuous improvement) with minimal oversight.
  • Applies deep expertise in school counseling programming and virtual-school operations to design, improve, and scale effective practices.
  • Serves as a go-to expert for counseling leaders and internal partners; provides consultation that improves implementation quality and outcomes.
  • Leads initiatives and delivers solutions that impact multiple schools and/or cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Coaches and mentors peers and/or more junior team members through expertise, feedback, and model practices (without formal direct reports).
  • Uses sound judgment in ambiguous situations, escalates risks appropriately, and balances student needs, compliance, and operational feasibility.

 

 

 

Core Tasks and Responsibilities

Provide subject-matter leadership and operational support to school counseling personnel in implementing programming, including high school placements, student safety counseling, and risk management, students in distress training and solutions for college and career readiness.

  • Provide subject matter expertise in multifaceted areas impacting school counseling to support, guide, and strengthen the implementation of ASCA-modeled comprehensive programs for Connections Academy partner schools.
  • Mentor, coach, and advise counseling leaders through program implementation, including troubleshooting complex issues and elevating best practices across schools.
  • Research graduation and other educational requirements for assigned and developing schools;
  • Support new schools in obtaining High School CEEB and related Online Provider Codes;
  • Organize and deliver the National Counseling LiveLesson program, Connections Academy’s school counseling core curriculum;
  • Collaborate with members of the C+C ecosystem to deliver other counseling initiatives;
  • Oversee the training and maintenance of the Progression Plan tool;
  • Oversee the creation of school profiles for all schools each year;
  • Review and evaluate weekly school counseling school year cycle data;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to monitor data input and outcomes for college and career readiness initiatives, identify trends, and recommend improvements that contribute to continuous school improvement.
  • Assist the Counseling + Career ecosystem in identifying best practices in virtual school counseling, and working to move all Connections Academy partner schools towards the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model;
  • Support the Counseling + Career ecosystem in the implementation of a School Counseling Program Audit and Career Program Health Index to support Connections Academy partner schools in the implementation of the ASCA National Model;
  • All other duties assigned

 

 

Required Skills, Experience, and Competencies

  • Masters’ Degree in counselor education; or related educational leadership

  • Professional School Counseling license or certificate;

  • Additional certification in School Administration/Educational Leadership preferred

  • Experience working as a school counselor, high school preferred

  • Experience with virtual education; leadership role preferred

  • Experience with school improvement, program development and implementation;
  • Strong presentation skills;
  • Ability to compile and interpret data;

  • Expertise in interpreting graduation requirements and compliance with state laws;

  • Willingness to obtain certification in other states, as requested;

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;

  • High degree of flexibility;

  • Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft 365 Office and Google suite products);

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines consistently, ensuring all tasks are completed with expertise and precision;
  • A strong customer-focused approach, delivering outcomes with professionalism; and
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own and deliver complex workstreams with minimal oversight, using sound judgment in ambiguous situations;

  • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority through clear communication, strong stakeholder partnership, and subject-matter leadership;

  • Experience mentoring or coaching others through expertise (e.g., advising counseling leaders, facilitating professional learning, or guiding implementation quality).
