Position Description Summary/Purpose: The English department in the School of Applied Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is accepting applications for a part-time adjunct teaching position for undergraduate English credit-bearing courses. Adjunct faculty members teach on a semester-by-semester basis. They are expected to perform all instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of Goodwin University. Adjunct faculty members report to the Director/Coordinator, who serves under the direction of the Dean. Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities: (The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Abiding by and upholding Goodwin's mission, policies, and core values. Teaching undergraduate students in two courses: English composition and a partner course, Introduction to College Writing. These courses meet synchronously online on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6PM to 8:50PM. Implementing assigned courses as designed and specified in approved syllabi. Using Canvas (LMS) effectively. Being available to students for individual consultation. Assisting students with how to be successful in class. Communicating in a timely manner with students, faculty, and staff. Meeting all course and semester timelines, including submitting attendance, progress survey and student support alerts, mid-term grades, and final grades by the specified due dates. Assigning grades based on the criteria specified in course syllabi and posting them to Canvas and the University’s data systems within 7 days of assignment submission. Posting initial and midweek Canvas Announcements consistently each week. Providing action-oriented feedback on assignments, during synchronous class sessions, and individually via email, video conferencing, and by phone. Staying current within the field of study. Conducting all work in a safe manner and ensuring all work safety practices are followed. Other Functions: Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as the situation dictates. Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends. Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort. Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues and students. QualificationsEducation, Training and Experience: The successful candidate should have: Degree Level (Master’s degree required/doctorate preferred) 1 - 3 years' experience Minimum MA in English, or a closely related field. Professional work experience teaching college-level English courses. Proficiency in teaching in an online environment. Experience using web-based applications and learning management software (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas). Demonstrated dedication to excellence in teaching and commitment to high academic and professional standards. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Commitment to the academic, emotional, and social development of all students.
