Indian River State College is seeking a creative and student-centered Adjunct Instructor of Art Appreciation to inspire learners through engaging instruction and meaningful artistic exploration. In this role, you will teach assigned Art Appreciation courses, evaluate student progress, provide timely feedback, and foster an inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and personal expression. The ideal candidate combines expertise in the visual arts with a passion for teaching and a commitment to helping students from diverse backgrounds achieve their academic and artistic goals. JOB SUMMARY:

• Preparing, instructing, and grading all class coursework;
• Assigning final grades;
• Communicating with students in a timely manner

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Instructing assigned classes;
• Grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignments;
• Assigning final grades and delivering grades and grade justification sheets;
• Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment;
• Responding to student inquiries regarding course content, grading, and other academic concerns;
• Collaborating with department colleagues as necessary;

Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Art, or a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in Art;

• Excellent communication skills both oral and written;
• Proven teaching skills with the ability to convey basic concepts and theories in a practical and comprehensible way;
• Ability to recognize and to respond to students from culturally diverse backgrounds as well as the willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process;
• Understanding of online pedagogy; 
• All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Preferred:                  

• A Master of Fine Arts degree from a regionally accredited institution in Art;
• Two (2) to five (5) years teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.
• Experience teaching online courses (Asynchronous)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present verbal lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds.  Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required.  It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.  IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
