The intern will support the monetization team by auditing site performance and analyzing SSP/bidder configurations to uncover revenue opportunities. They will also develop sales collateral, create GTM strategies for audience segments, and map programmatic advertising prospects.
- Team: Monetization Operations & Programmatic Sales
- Duration: Summer 2026 (10–12 weeks)
- Location: Remote / Flexible
- Comp: $22/hr
Arena is seeking a driven, analytical, and commercially-minded Ad Tech & Programmatic Monetization Intern to join our revenue operations team for the summer.
In this role, you will sit at the intersection of media, technology, and sales, directly supporting Arena’s monetization team in maximizing digital ad revenue across our portfolio of premium brands (including TheStreet, Parade, Men’s Journal, and Athlon Sports). You will work across five core projects designed to audit our systems, uncover untapped revenue opportunities, and build sales collateral that goes straight to major brand advertisers.
No prior ad tech experience is required. We will teach you the fundamentals of programmatic advertising. This is an ideal role for an analytical problem-solver who wants to learn how modern media companies generate revenue and power the open web.
- An Analytical Thinker: You enjoy digging into data, organizing information, and finding patterns or gaps in spreadsheets.
- A Strong Communicator: You can take data or technical concepts and translate them into clean, visually appealing, and persuasive sales collateral (PowerPoint/Google Slides).
- Resourceful & Curious: You don’t need to know what a "bidder" or "SSP" is today, but you must be excited to learn how complex data-driven technology works.
- Detail-Oriented: You notice when an ad layout looks broken on a mobile phone or when data in a matrix doesn't add up.
- Current Student: Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Data Analytics, Media/Communications, or a related field.
You will complete five distinct, high-impact projects over the course of the summer:
1. Site Configuration & Performance Audit
- Perform a visual and data-driven health check of top Arena sites across both mobile and desktop.
- Pull and analyze key metrics including impressions, revenue, ad viewability, and fill-rates.
- Deliver a prioritized optimization report identifying technical or layout issues that are costing the company ad revenue.
2. SSP & Bidder Configuration Gap Analysis
- Map out our ad-buying partners by building a comprehensive Site-by-Supply-Side-Platform (SSP) matrix.
- Calculate and size the financial opportunity of missing or misconfigured ad partners across our portfolio.
- Build a refreshable framework/dashboard the team can use to maintain system health after your internship ends.
3. Curation Segment Go-To-Market (GTM)
- Package Arena’s rich audience data into high-value, buyable segments for advertisers.
- Draft an impactful GTM "one-pager" outlining these data packages.
- Build at least one buyer-ready sales deck to present to programmatic ad agencies.
4. Prospecting & Revenue Opportunity Mapping
- Use industry-leading intelligence tools (Adomik and Winmo) to identify Private Marketplace (PMP), Preferred Deal (PD), and Programmatic Guaranteed (PG) advertising opportunities.
- Build highly targeted prospecting lists complete with verified buyer contact information to fuel our sales pipeline.
5. Sales Enablement & Collateral Development
- Refresh existing B2B sales decks and marketing one-sheeters to ensure Arena’s marketplace positioning is sharp.
- Create promotional materials for upcoming seasonal and tentpole editorial events.
- Refine how we position our premium PMP packages to the advertising market.
