Reading modem traces well is rare, which is why this stays a specialist problem. You'll build the first system that does automatic cross-layer root cause from the baseband, through QMI and the radio HAL, into Android, grounded in the customer's own stack.
Location: Remote (4h overlap with Pacific or IST; Seattle or Bengaluru on-site preferred). Full-time.
The bar
• 10+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Deep modem or baseband experience: bringup, debug, or protocol-stack work.
• Fluency with DIAG/QMI, QXDM/QCAT, and reading modem crash dumps.
• Working knowledge of 4G/5G NAS, RRC, and lower-layer behavior.
• IMS/VoLTE/VoNR debugging: SIP/IMS signaling and carrier field issues.
• Comfort at the RIL / radio HAL boundary.
• Proficient in day-to-day work with CLI-based AI coding tools like Claude Code (or an equivalent). It's how the team operates, not a nice-to-have.
What you'll do
• Build parsers and analysis for modem traces: DIAG, QMI, QXDM/QCAT, modem ramdumps and crash logs.
• Map observed failures to root cause across NAS, RRC, and L1/L2, and across the RIL / radio HAL interface into Android.
• Encode cellular-stack reasoning the platform uses to ground remediations.
Bonus
• Qualcomm modem internals.
• MediaTek modem familiarity (ELT / MTK logging).
• Carrier certification or lab/field debug experience.
• Any exposure to log-analysis or ML tooling.
• Network-side or RAN familiarity (gNB, RRC, NGAP, CU/DU/RU splits, open-RAN).
