The role involves providing one-on-one academic coaching and standardized test preparation to students while serving as a mentor to support their confidence and motivation. Coaches are also responsible for documenting interactions, maintaining communication with families, and instilling durable study habits and executive functioning skills.

About the job

HelloCollege is a fast-growing college planning and tutoring company with a national clientele that is currently hiring part-time Academic Coaches, specifically for standardized tests (ACT and SAT) and Humanities (AP Psych, AP US History, ELA, etc.) and Foreign Language (French, Spanish, German) courses.

We coach students virtually in one-on-one sessions, covering high school coursework and standardized test prep, mentoring them through academic challenges. If you have a passion for teaching and a love of learning, we want to hear from you! Our role is to reduce the stress of students and parents by properly preparing and guiding students through high school and college planning. For additional information about us, please visit

What we provide:

  • Structured onboarding and an ongoing Academic Coach curriculum, so you're supported with proven frameworks rather than left to build your own approach from scratch
  • Students begin with a diagnostic assessment, so you're not starting from zero on day one
  • A dedicated coaching portal for scheduling, session notes, and progress tracking
  • Pay that grows with tenure, subject breadth, and credentialing—not a flat rate regardless of experience

Core responsibilities include:

  • Coaching students in one-on-one sessions, guiding them through academic challenges
  • Serving as a mentor to students, supporting their confidence and motivation alongside their academic growth
  • Meeting with students and families to help students gain the academic and executive functioning skills necessary for success
  • Instilling durable study habits and executive functioning skills—time management, self-directed practice, reflection—that transfer beyond the current test or course
  • Communicating with students in a timely manner

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Biweekly internal meetings with teammates and supervisor
  • Documenting all student interactions
  • Providing your own remote work equipment, including a laptop with reliable internet access, an iPad or similar device with which to write on screen, and a professional video background

Successful applicants will possess:

  • A strong command of the standardized testing process (ACT/SAT)
  • Experience helping students succeed on the ACT and SAT
  • A strong command of high school Humanities (English, Social Studies, Social Science)
  • A strong command of high school foreign language (a plus, not required)
  • Familiarity/experience with AP and/or IB coursework
  • Experience building structure and accountability habits with students—not just delivering content
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with high school- or college-aged students
  • Self-direction and the ability to meet strict deadlines in a remote work environment
  • Familiarity with Google Docs

Additional consideration will be given to candidates with experience:

  • A strong command of high school subjects beyond core specialty
  • Developing individualized curriculums
  • Counseling students through mental health challenges
  • Working in education

Though the schedule is highly flexible, strict availability requirements include the ability to work:

  • 10–20 hours per week
  • At least three weekday evenings and one weekend day per week (most coaching happens weekly between 3pm–10pm CST or on weekends)
  • Pay: $30–$50 per hour
  • This is a fully remote position

Education:

  • Bachelor's (Required)
