🚀 Project Overview

You will join the engineering team behind "Hiring Events," a highly visible, live production platform powering high-stakes virtual and in-person recruitment events globally. Because this software operates during live, time-sensitive events, any system malfunction directly impacts major client operations.

In this role, you will be part of an elite, high-autonomy response unit that triages systems dynamically during peak traffic while continuously improving and scaling the core application architecture. This environment is built for independent thinkers who thrive in ambiguity, collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional business teams, and take full ownership of their code from logic design through to production deployment.

🔍 Key Responsibilities

• Design and scale backend services using Java and Spring Boot to power the core Event Management and Lobby architectures.
• Develop and maintain multiple distinct frontends (Lobby, IRL, Jobseeker) using React, ensuring a seamless user experience during live events.
• Triage and troubleshoot production issues dynamically, using data to strategically prioritize and resolve critical runtime bottlenecks.
• Manage and optimize event-driven messaging workflows using Kafka, as well as data routing through GraphQL APIs and SQL/MongoDB databases.
• Lead and coordinate technical efforts, collaborating closely with non-technical business teams and managing end-to-end features from architecture to production.
• Participate in architectural discussions and code reviews, promoting clean, maintainable, and well-tested code standards.

💡 Must-Have Skills

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of high autonomy, handling ambiguity, and taking proactive product ownership.
• Robust backend proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, paired with experience in event-driven architectures using Kafka.
• Functional working knowledge of Python and Django to support secondary backend services.
• Solid hands-on frontend experience using React to deliver responsive, high-performance user interfaces.
• Practical expertise in Data Management & APIs, specifically with GraphQL and database administration (SQL or MongoDB).
• Familiarity with Data Infrastructure, having worked with at least one data framework such as Dagster, Data Lakes, or Amazon Athena.
• Strong leadership & communication skills: Ability to clear roadblocks, strategically solve live production issues, and effectively coordinate the work of others.
• Experience working in Agile teams and remote environments.
• Fluent English for daily communication.

🌟 Nice-to-Have Skills

• Product Insight: Prior experience acting as a Product Manager or working closely alongside Go-To-Market (GTM) teams to prioritize technical backlogs.
• Next-Gen Engineering: Experience optimizing engineering workflows and accelerating delivery using AI-assisted development tools like Claude, Cursor, or Windsurf.

🌐 Time Zone & Collaboration

The role requires collaboration with teams aligned to CT. Flexibility to overlap a minimum of 5-6 hours with US business hours is expected.
