Stephen Fairris

Full-stack TypeScript developer with 7 years of experience building production apps with React, Node, Express, SQL and Mongo, deployed across Cloudflare, GCP and AWS. Most recently I spent 7 years at Medal, working on the desktop and web apps as we grew from 40K to 1.8M users. I didn't take the traditional path into software. I started out in aerospace doing nondestructive testing at Boeing and systems testing at Panasonic Avionics, then learned to code with the help of a mentor. Design work happens in Figma. For product lifecycle and Scrum my current go-to is Linear, but I've used plenty of other tools over the years. Over the past year my work has been AI-assisted. I lean heavily on Claude Code for prompt-driven development, and I use MCP integrations with tools like Linear, Sentry and GitHub to tie the whole workflow together. Outside of work, I mentor people breaking into software, because someone did the same for me. Two of my mentees have grown to have full time development jobs of their own which is by far one of my proudest accomplishments.
