Rini Chakraborty

I work at the intersection of intellectual property and software engineering, in the electronics and lighting product space. Over the last four years, I’ve built hands-on experience across the IP lifecycle — running prior art and patentability searches, evaluating inventions for filing potential, and preparing the technical documentation that supports patent, design, and trademark filings. I review patent drafts and give technical feedback on claims and scope, and when First Examination Reports come in, I analyze the cited references and work with our external counsel to shape the response strategy. I’ve also supported hearing preparation and handled trademark matters end to end, including opposition and rectification proceedings. I sit as the technical point of contact between our engineering teams and external patent counsel — translating what’s actually novel about a product into something that holds up as IP, and helping decide the right protection route for a given innovation. Alongside this, I continue to work as a software engineer, building ERP systems, backend applications, and IoT-based tools using Java, PHP, and SQL, and collaborating closely with hardware and embedded teams on production systems. I’m currently preparing for the Indian Patent Agent Examination and building deeper expertise in patent analytics through WIPO’s coursework.
