Operations Leadership | Cross-functional is the job | Systems, people, money, policy
Seeking: Business Operations Manager
What do you do? I run operations at Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling Service: the systems, the people, the money, and the policy work. The Executive Director, Assistant Director, Board, clinicians, front desk, and staff accountant all route work through me. I own the EHR, the donor database, weekly vendor payments, and the front desk team. I also hold a permanent seat on the Process Quality Improvement Committee, where I draft policy revisions and analyze data. For how long? 10+ years in operations, including five years owning and running my own business from launch through a second service line. Two things you achieved 1. I proposed payment at time of service and took it through our quality committee instead of issuing it as a directive. I rewrote the procedure, trained the front desk, and moved existing clients onto an updated fee agreement. Monthly cash receipts more than doubled. 2. At St. Paul's Lutheran Preschool, I found evidence of financial misconduct by the director and reported it to the Board. I was appointed interim director and led 22 staff and more than 100 families for eleven months. Every one of them stayed and the school never closed. What kind of remote role do you want next? A fully remote Manager or Director of Operations role that covers systems, people, money, and governance. I want to build the systems underneath the work, then automate the parts that don't need a person. I've done both: I shipped Maven OS, a paid SaaS product, end to end, and I built a paperless chart-audit portal in SharePoint and Power Automate with Claude as a thought partner.
