Garrett Meiers

I’m a senior UNIX/Linux engineer and infrastructure architect with over 30 years of experience designing, supporting, and modernizing enterprise systems. My background spans the full lifecycle of large-scale environments including architecture, migrations, performance tuning, automation, and operational support. I specialize in complex infrastructure projects, particularly modernization efforts that move legacy UNIX platforms to modern Linux and cloud environments. I’ve worked extensively with technologies including HP-UX, Solaris, AIX, and Linux across large enterprise environments, and I’m comfortable operating at both deep technical and architectural levels. Recent work includes serving as the primary technical authority on a major HP-UX to Linux migration to AWS, coordinating external consulting teams while remaining hands-on with engineering, system architecture, and modernization strategy. Earlier in my career I worked on large-scale UNIX-to-Linux migration programs involving thousands of servers and hundreds of enterprise applications, helping organizations reduce infrastructure costs while improving reliability and scalability. My experience includes system architecture, large-scale migrations, LVM and storage design, SAN environments, virtualization, automation, performance troubleshooting, and infrastructure modernization. I’m known for being able to step into complex environments, quickly understand legacy systems, and guide them toward stable and maintainable modern platforms. I typically work in senior engineering or architecture roles where I can combine hands-on technical work with strategic planning and mentoring of engineering teams. I’m open to long-term contracts or full-time roles with distributed teams focused on infrastructure engineering, platform modernization, or cloud migration.
