I build systems for problems that don't have clean answers yet. Most of my work sits where the requirements contradict each other, the legacy system is undocumented, and someone has to sit with the constraints long enough to find a design that survives contact with reality. Three years of that at American Express has made me useful in exactly the places where the docs run out. Lately I've been working on applied AI: retrieval systems, LLM tooling, and MCP. Mostly because the interesting problem there isn't the model; it's everything around it. I care as much about why something is being built as how. That instinct has saved me more time than any framework.
