Koniag Professional Services, LLC a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking an experienced Test Engineer to support KPS and our government customer. The position is remote. This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust.

Koniag Professional Services, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking an experienced Test Engineer to join a team dedicated to delivering high-quality software solutions in support of both established projects and new application development efforts. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, analytical professional who is passionate about software quality, committed to continuous improvement, and possesses the ability to apply their technical knowledge and experience to identify and resolve complex issues before they reach production.

 

The Test Engineer will be responsible for planning, developing, executing, and maintaining comprehensive test strategies and test cases to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of software applications and systems. This individual will work closely with developers, business analysts, and project stakeholders to validate that software solutions meet defined requirements and perform as expected in both development and production environments.

 

Principal responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Design, develop, and execute manual and automated test plans, test cases, and test scripts to validate software functionality, performance, and reliability.
  • Conduct various types of testing including functional, regression, integration, system, user acceptance, and performance testing across multiple environments.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects and inconsistencies using approved defect tracking and ticketing tools; communicate findings clearly to development and project teams.
  • Collaborate closely with developers, system analysts, and business analysts to understand requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
  • Participate in requirements reviews, design walkthroughs, and sprint ceremonies to provide quality assurance input early in the software development lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks to improve testing efficiency and coverage.
  • Perform root cause analysis on identified defects and work with development teams to ensure timely resolution and re-testing.
  • Validate that software solutions meet established security, compliance, and accessibility standards as required by project and government guidelines.
  • Maintain detailed and up-to-date test documentation, including test plans, test cases, test results, and traceability matrices.
  • Monitor and report on testing progress, defect metrics, and overall software quality to project leads and stakeholders.
  • Support the development and enforcement of quality assurance standards, best practices, and testing SOPs across the team.
  • Participate in Agile sprint cycles, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily standups, and retrospectives, contributing a quality assurance perspective throughout.
  • Coordinate and support user acceptance testing (UAT) activities with government customers and end users, providing guidance and documentation as needed.
  • Assess and mitigate risks related to software quality and testing coverage, escalating issues to technical leads as appropriate.
  • Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to testing processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency and quality outcomes.

 

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 3+ years of experience in software quality assurance, test engineering, or a related testing role.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing test plans and test cases for complex software applications.
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment.

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance or test engineering.
  • Experience supporting software testing in a federal government IT environment.

 

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in designing, developing, and executing manual and automated test plans, test cases, and test scripts across multiple testing types including functional, regression, integration, system, and performance testing.
  • Experience with defect tracking and project management tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, document, and clearly communicate software defects and their root causes.
  • Solid understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) and how quality assurance fits within each phase.
  • Experience developing and maintaining test automation frameworks and automated test scripts using tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar.
  • Ability to create and maintain comprehensive test documentation including test plans, test cases, test results, and requirements traceability matrices.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies, including Scrum, and the ability to actively contribute within an Agile team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering thorough and accurate testing outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly convey testing findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment while also managing individual testing responsibilities independently.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.

 

Desired Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience working in a federal government IT environment.
  • ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) or equivalent quality assurance certification.
  • Experience with API testing tools such as Postman, SoapUI, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with performance and load testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, or similar.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility standards and experience conducting accessibility testing.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline integration for automated testing using tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
  • Familiarity with security testing concepts and tools.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating user acceptance testing (UAT) with government or enterprise-level customers.
  • Knowledge of database querying (SQL) for backend data validation during testing activities.
  • Experience with cloud-based testing environments, particularly within Microsoft Azure or AWS ecosystems.
