My Money Matters is a leading financial health platform on a mission to help public sector workers make the most of their salary - through education and products like pension top-ups, on-demand pay and automated savings.
Right now, 72% of public sector workers are just one bad month away from financial difficulty. We exist to change that. Through innovative financial products, education, and our digital money coach, we help people take control of their financial future, whether that’s buying their first home, boosting their pension, or planning for retirement. Already trusted by major organisations including the NHS, we’re growing quickly and building a team of ambitious, commercially minded people who want their work to genuinely matter.
We are looking for a Test Automation Engineer to make quality a first-class, automated part of how we build software. This is a high-impact opportunity to establish our test automation practice and own it end to end - building fast, reliable test suites with Playwright, embedding them into our pipelines, and giving every engineer the confidence to ship and the evidence that what they shipped works.
Quality and release confidence are explicit priorities on our roadmap, and you will be central to delivering them. You will define what ‘well-tested’ means here, build the frameworks and standards that make good testing the path of least resistance, and play a key role in safely migrating off our legacy platform - where automated regression testing is the gate that protects our customers through cutover.
This is a pragmatic, build-it role for someone with a strong bias to action. You will start with the journeys that carry the most risk, get meaningful coverage in place quickly, and grow it sprint by sprint -favouring tests that catch real problems over coverage for its own sake.
Our Tech
Our systems are built using Web technologies (React, Node.js), with a React Native mobile app published to Android and iOS, deployed on Google Cloud (with Firebase). We use Playwright as our test automation technology, GitHub for source control and GitHub Actions for CI/CD, SonarQube for static analysis, and GCP Vertex for agentic AI. Test maturity varies across the estate - our newer mobile app has strong coverage, while parts of the platform have little or none yet - so there is real scope to raise the bar. We hold ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials, so reliable, evidenced quality matters here.
What you’ll do
Own the automation framework. You’ll design build and own our automated test framework in Playwright – end-to-end, integration and regression suites that are fast, reliable and trusted by the team.
Make rests part of every release. Integrating automated testing into our CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) so that checks run on every change, results are clear, and failing tests block unsafe releases.
Set the quality bar. Define a pragmatic, risk-based coverage standard and grow coverage across the platform sprint by sprint, prioritising the highest-risk journeys first - starting with the AVC application and payroll.
Protect the migration. Be a key contributor to the migration off the legacy platform, building the regression and parallel-run test assets that validate the new platform against the old - the critical quality gate before cutover.
Test beyond the happy path. Stand up integration, load and end-to-end testing for major changes, and help establish the test data and environments needed to run them reliably.
Make quality visible. Make test results, flakiness and coverage visible to the team, and drive down flaky tests so the suite stays trustworthy.
Raise everyone’s game. Partner with engineers to embed testing earlier in the lifecycle - coaching on testable design, good unit tests and a shift-left mindset - so quality is built in, not bolted on.
Work smart. Use AI tooling thoughtfully to accelerate test generation and coverage of legacy code, with appropriate human review.
Build the standards. Help define and document our testing standards, ways of working and quality gates, contributing to a Secure Development approach.
Work as one team. Be an active, engaged member of the cross-functional agile team - contributing in standups, refinement, planning and retros, and championing quality throughout.
What we’re looking for
Proven experience in a Test Automation, SDET or QA Engineering role, building and maintaining automated test suites in a modern product environment.
Strong hands-on experience with Playwright (or a close equivalent such as Cypress/Selenium, with a willingness to work in Playwright), including end-to-end and integration testing of web applications.
Solid scripting/programming ability, ideally in JavaScript/TypeScript, and comfort working closely with a React and Node.js codebase.
Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions) and treating test code with the same rigour as production code.
A track record of raising test coverage from a low base in a pragmatic, risk-prioritised way - and of keeping suites fast and free of flakiness.
Good understanding of testing strategy across the pyramid: unit, integration, end-to-end, regression, and where each adds the most value.
Experience with API testing, test data management and test environments; exposure to performance/load testing is welcome.
A pragmatic, bias-to-action mindset - you ship meaningful coverage quickly and improve it continuously, rather than waiting for the perfect framework.
Awareness of operating within compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials, and why evidenced, repeatable quality matters.
Great communication skills, fluent in written and spoken English, and the ability to influence quality across a remote team.
