Technology & Systems Manager

Reports to: Director of Support Services
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Location: Remote in USA

Position Overview

The Technology & Systems Manager serves as the organization’s primary owner of technology strategy, systems governance, cybersecurity, data management, and technology‑related compliance in support of our church support ministries, including ACCFS, ETR, HarvestCall, and Onward Media.

This role provides strategic leadership, consultative support, selective hands‑on assistance, and project management for internal technology and data initiatives. While many day‑to‑day technical services are delivered by an external service provider, this role ensures internal systems and infrastructure are secure, well‑governed, and aligned with ministry needs.

The Technology & Systems Manager owns how internal technology and data function safely and reliably. They do not own how the organization communicates externally.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Leadership & Governance

  • Own the organization’s technology strategy, priorities, and multi‑year roadmap
  • Provide oversight of technology budgets, licensing, vendors, and long‑term planning
  • Establish standards for internal systems, infrastructure, data management, and security while ensuring employees can function productively

Internal Systems & Infrastructure

  • Own governance of internal systems and infrastructure supporting staff and ministry operations
  • Provide leadership for internal collaboration platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365, Teams) related to productivity, access, and data stewardship
  • Own device standards, lifecycle planning, inventory management, and secure disposal processes and software licensing, renewals, and cost optimization
  • Ensure accurate documentation exists for internal systems, data standards, vendors, and key processes
  • Oversee workplace infrastructure including conference room AV systems, printers, and related internal technology

Data Management & Project Leadership

  • Advise ministries on data placement, usage, and workflows
  • Define standards for data classification, retention, archiving, and secure disposal
  • Lead technology and data‑related projects, including cleanup, migration, consolidation, and archiving

User Support, Access & Advocacy

  • Own onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure appropriate access, devices, and security
  • Provide direct one‑on‑one support as needed for applications, systems, and occasional computer or access issues on Windows and Mac environments
  • Serve as a trusted internal resource when issues require judgment, authorization, or deeper context
  • Actively advocate for staff with the external service provider by escalating unresolved issues, clarifying priorities, and holding vendors accountable

Security, HIPAA & Continuity

  • Own technology‑related security safeguards, including those supporting HIPAA‑regulated environments
  • Oversee vendor risk and Business Associate considerations
  • Ensure backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans are documented and maintained

Partnership with Communications Functions

The Technology & Systems Manager partners with Communications teams by:

  • Providing guidance on internal system integrations, security, and data handling
  • Reviewing technology risks when external platforms interface with internal systems
  • Ensuring internal access controls and compliance requirements are met

Communications teams retain ownership of:

  • Public websites and digital presence
  • External messaging platforms and publishing tools
  • Content strategy, branding, and audience engagement technologies

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned; responsibilities may evolve based on organizational needs

  • Proven ability to partner effectively with external service providers, consultants, and vendors while maintaining clear internal ownership and accountability
  • Ability to diagnose issues, ask the right questions, and determine when to resolve directly versus escalate
  • High degree of organizational and prioritization skill, balancing multiple stakeholders, projects, and competing needs while working independently and collaboratively
