The Optum Insight API Platform team is seeking a Technical Product Manager to support delivery of API platform capabilities that help teams publish, manage, monitor, and support APIs more efficiently. This role will partner with engineering, architecture, security, operations, and business stakeholders to translate platform needs into clear requirements, prioritize work, and support delivery from discovery through launch.

 

The ideal candidate has experience with technical products, platforms, APIs, or enterprise technology capabilities. They can break down complex problems, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and help drive execution across teams. Experience with API management, developer platforms, cloud systems, reliability, or automation is valuable, but this role is primarily focused on execution, delivery support, and continuous improvement for assigned platform capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities:    

  • Own and execute product work for assigned API platform capabilities, including discovery, requirements, prioritization, delivery support, and stakeholder alignment
  • Convert business objectives, user pain points, security requirements, and operational constraints into clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and priority decisions
  • Lead cross-functional planning with engineering, architecture, SRE, security, identity, and operations to sequence dependencies, assess risks, and drive release quality gates
  • Support improvements to platform reliability and operational readiness through better monitoring, resiliency planning, incident learnings, disaster recovery preparation, and operational controls
  • Support self-service onboarding and process improvements that reduce manual intervention, improve consistency, and increase platform throughput
  • Communicate product direction, tradeoffs, risks, dependencies, decisions, and delivery progress clearly with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Use feedback, metrics, support trends, and operational insights to identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and better self-service
  • Contribute to documentation, repeatable processes, release readiness, and cross-team alignment for assigned platform capabilities
  • Partner with related product teams, including AI Marketplace where applicable, to ensure platform capabilities support broader API discovery, onboarding, subscription, and commercialization needs
  • Apply AI product management tools and practices to improve requirements quality, documentation, prioritization, and collaboration

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of experience in Product Management, Technical Product Management, Platform Product Management, or a related technology role
  • 2+ years of experience working with APIs, platform products, developer platforms, integrations, or enterprise technology environments
  • 1+ years of experience engaging stakeholders, documenting requirements and decisions, and collaborating effectively across engineering, architecture, operations, security, product, and business teams
  • 1+ years of experience translating technical and business requirements into user stories, acceptance criteria, product requirements, and delivery priorities
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, matrixed enterprise environment with evolving priorities, interdependent teams, and production-readiness expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity, prioritize competing demands, identify dependencies, and support successful delivery across multiple teams
  • Ability to support product delivery throughout the product lifecycle, from requirements gathering through implementation and adoption
  • Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical considerations, customer needs, and business objectives

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with technical products, platforms, APIs, integrations, developer tools, cloud-based systems, or enterprise technology capabilities
  • Familiarity with API lifecycle concepts such as onboarding, publishing, gateway management, credentialing, subscriptions, versioning, monitoring, and supportability
  • Familiarity with API management platforms, developer portals, API consoles, identity platforms, credential management, observability tools, or cloud-based platform architectures
  • Experience with API commercialization, marketplace models, developer ecosystems, API product packaging, or partner/seller enablement workflows
  • Exposure to platform reliability, observability, incident management, disaster recovery readiness, operational controls, or operational automation

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $72,800 to $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
