Job Summary

 

The Technical Documentation Specialist is responsible for creating, maintaining, and governing technical documentation supporting both Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure. This role ensures that infrastructure standards, procedures, network designs, operational runbooks, disaster recovery documentation, cybersecurity requirements, and project records are accurate, standardized, and accessible.

 

The Technical Documentation Specialist partners with Network Operations, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Engineering, Service Management, and Manufacturing Technology teams to translate complex technical concepts into clear and actionable documentation.

 

This role is remote within the following states: AZ, FL, GA, IL, KS, MA, MI, NC, NE, SD, TN, TX, WI, and WY. Candidates may reside in or relocate to any of these states. Relocation assistance will be provided.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

 

Documentation Governance 

  • Develop and maintain documentation standards across IT and OT.
  • Create templates for policies, standards, procedures, work instructions, and architecture documents.
  • Ensure document version control and approval workflows are followed.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of documentation for accuracy and compliance.

 Infrastructure Documentation 

  • Document network architectures, topology diagrams, IP allocation standards, and connectivity models.
  • Maintain infrastructure inventory documentation.
  • Create deployment guides and implementation playbooks.
  • Document cloud, server, firewall, wireless, and OT connectivity solutions.

 Operational Documentation 

  • Create standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Develop incident response runbooks.
  • Document change management procedures.
  • Produce disaster recovery and business continuity documentation.

 Cybersecurity & Compliance 

  • Support documentation of cybersecurity controls and requirements.
  • Maintain documentation aligned to NIST, Purdue, ISA/IEC 62443, and company standards.
  • Assist with audit evidence collection and compliance reporting.

Project Documentation 

  • Develop project technical specifications.
  • Produce installation guides and cutover plans.
  • Create training materials and knowledge transfer documents.
  • Support lessons learned and post-implementation reviews.

 Knowledge Management 

  • Manage SharePoint documentation repositories.
  • Establish document taxonomies and searchability standards.
  • Improve accessibility and usability of technical information.
  • Develop onboarding documentation for infrastructure personnel.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of technical writing experience.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Visio, and Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience documenting networking environments.
  • Experience with OT/manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding of network architecture, cybersecurity, and systems administration.
  • Familiarity with Fortinet products.
  • Knowledge of NIST and Purdue frameworks.
