Tech Lead – Application Engineering

Role Overview

We are seeking a Tech Lead – Application Engineering & Platform Integration to provide hands-on technical leadership across complex application engineering initiatives.

This is a technical leadership role focused on architecture, engineering standards, code quality, and technical decision-making rather than people management. You will guide senior engineers while remaining close to the code, helping integrate complex business logic, data-intensive capabilities, and AI-enabled features into scalable, maintainable applications.

The ideal candidate combines strong full-stack engineering fundamentals with architectural ownership, AWS knowledge, terminal-first development practices, and the ability to establish high engineering standards for both traditional and AI-assisted software development.

• Location: Remote position within LATAM.
• Contract Duration: 6-month contract.
• Language Requirement: Advanced English.

What you'll do

• Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across application engineering initiatives.
• Review pull requests and establish strong standards for code quality, maintainability, and engineering consistency.
• Guide Senior Developers and support technical decision-making throughout implementation.
• Design and deploy containerized applications and REST-based services.
• Integrate complex business logic, AI capabilities, and outputs from data-heavy backend systems into existing applications.
• Work across Python backend services and modern React/TypeScript applications.
• Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams around AWS infrastructure and application integration.
• Work with environments involving S3-backed data lakes, Athena, and EKS/Kubernetes.
• Understand how orchestrated data pipelines feed application services and collaborate effectively with the teams responsible for those systems.
• Use AI-assisted development tools while establishing responsible engineering practices around AI-generated code.
• Identify and challenge architectural shortcuts that could negatively impact scalability or long-term maintainability.
• Collaborate directly with technical stakeholders to clarify functional and non-functional requirements.

What you'll bring

• 7+ years of full-stack software engineering experience.
• Strong track record of architectural ownership and hands-on technical leadership.
• Strong production experience with Python and frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.
• Solid experience with TypeScript and React.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and database migrations.
• Strong experience designing and working with REST APIs.
• Experience working with or migrating away from legacy GraphQL endpoints.
• Hands-on experience with Docker.
• Demonstrated experience building or maintaining data-heavy applications involving large datasets, payloads, or performance-sensitive queries.
• Working familiarity with AWS environments, particularly S3, Athena, and EKS/Kubernetes concepts.
• Understanding of DAG-based orchestration and tools such as Airflow or comparable technologies.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar.
• High proficiency working within Mac/Linux terminal-centric environments using tools such as Bash and Makefiles.
• Strong software architecture and system design capabilities.
• Ability to defend technical decisions, challenge short-term solutions, and balance long-term engineering quality with delivery needs.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Advanced English proficiency, both written and spoken.

What will make you stand out

• Direct production experience with AWS Athena, S3-based data lakes, or Airflow.
• Experience delivering production AI capabilities using AWS Bedrock, Pydantic AI, LangChain, or similar technologies.
• Experience with Nx, Poetry, UV, Yarn, or other modern monorepo and package management tooling.
• Experience with Redis or similar caching technologies.
• Exposure to Trino/Presto, ClickHouse, SageMaker, or other analytics platforms.
• Experience with marketing data structures, campaign management APIs, or digital advertising metrics.
• Strong familiarity with terminal-first development practices and TUI-based engineering workflows.
