iT1, a leading national technology solution provider headquartered in Tempe, AZ, is looking for a skilled and experienced Systems Engineer II to join our team. iT1 has been ranked as one of Arizona’s Best Places to Work for over a decade, running in the Small Business category. The Systems Engineer II (3rd Shift) serves as a primary technical resource during overnight operational hours. The position supports internal and external managed-services environments by monitoring critical infrastructure, responding to alerts and incidents, performing systems and network administration, executing approved after-hours maintenance, and ensuring the stability and availability of customer services. The engineer acts as an overnight escalation point, works independently within established procedures, communicates critical events to on-call resources, and provides complete shift-turnover documentation while ensuring assigned work is completed in adherence to iT1 standards.

Requirements

  • Serve as a primary overnight escalation point for infrastructure, network, cloud, backup, and platform incidents within the NOC team’s scope.
  • Maintain continuous monitoring coverage throughout the assigned shift and respond to critical alerts, service events, and monitoring notifications within established response targets.
  • Validate alerts, assess business impact, correlate related events, complete initial triage, and resolve or escalate incidents according to documented procedures.
  • Research, resolve, document, and communicate internal and client issues in a timely manner while meeting applicable SLA response, update, escalation, and resolution expectations.
  • Perform proactive overnight health checks of client infrastructure, hosted services, backup jobs, replication processes, scheduled automation, and other critical operational services.
  • Coordinate overnight incident response for outages and service interruptions; engage on-call engineering, leadership, vendors, or client contacts as required by the escalation matrix.
  • Provide intermediate-level network troubleshooting and configuration support, including Meraki, Cisco, switching, routing, wireless, firewall connectivity, and VPN tunnels.
  • Provide intermediate-level troubleshooting of Windows workstations, file servers, Windows Server platforms, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related services.
  • Provide intermediate-level Azure support, including virtual machines, storage, networking, network security groups, backup, monitoring, and identity integrations.
  • Support Microsoft 365 services, including Outlook, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, and common identity or access-related issues.
  • Support VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V environments, including virtual machine lifecycle tasks, host or cluster health, and compute, storage, or resource issues.
  • Execute approved overnight maintenance windows, patching activities, infrastructure changes, and validation steps in accordance with change-management procedures.
  • Participate in major incident response and root cause analysis by capturing timelines, contributing factors, corrective actions, and follow-up items.
  • Create comprehensive shift-turnover notes for unresolved incidents, pending maintenance, client communications, and risks requiring day-shift follow-up.
  • Ensure all overnight incidents, alerts, maintenance activities, changes, escalations, and client communications are fully documented before shift completion.
  • Identify recurring overnight alerts or operational issues and recommend monitoring, documentation, automation, or process improvements.
  • Use PowerShell or other approved tools to gather diagnostic information, improve repeatability, and automate appropriate routine administrative tasks.
  • Maintain and develop required diagrams, documentation, procedures, and IT asset records for internal and client environments.
  • Provide professional communication to internal teams and external customers during normal operations and service-impacting incidents.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-5 years of progressive infrastructure, systems, networking, cloud, or managed-services support experience.
  • Experience supporting 24x7 operations, an NOC, an MSP, or another alert-driven production environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, networking, Azure, and at least one virtualization platform.
  • Experience managing incidents from alert through triage, resolution or escalation, documentation, and operational handoff.
  • Ability to work independently with limited immediate supervision and make sound operational decisions within documented authority.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple concurrent incidents and recognize when immediate escalation is required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical teams, on-call personnel, business users, and external customers during overnight incidents.
  • Ability to accurately follow technical work instructions, maintenance plans, change records, escalation procedures, and validation checklists.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with LogicMonitor, NinjaOne, ConnectWise PSA, IT Glue, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Backup, and Azure Site Recovery.
  • Experience supporting VMware vSphere, VMware Cloud Foundation, and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • PowerShell scripting and automation experience is beneficial
  • Experience completing production maintenance during approved after-hours change windows.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills during high-impact outages and the ability to maintain accurate communication under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, documentation, organization, time-management, and prioritization skills.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) - preferred
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • VMware or Microsoft 365 Certifications

Shift:

  • Wednesday-Sunday, 8:00pm-4:30am AZ
