DESCRIPTION  

Remote or Hybrid (for candidates based in São Paulo).

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain distributed backend services that process high-volume, low-latency messaging traffic to detect and prevent fraud across multiple communication channels, including SMS, RCS, and WhatsApp.

You will work on highly scalable systems that rely on event-driven architectures, distributed data processing, and cloud-native technologies. The role requires close collaboration with globally distributed engineering teams to build reliable, high-performance services while sharing technical knowledge and contributing to engineering best practices.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.

  • Build and evolve distributed systems capable of processing high-volume, time-sensitive workloads.

  • Develop solutions using Java/Rust and work with distributed messaging platforms such as Kafka.

  • Design efficient data solutions using relational and analytical databases (e.g. MySQL, ClickHouse, BigQuery, Athena).

  • Ensure reliability, observability, fault tolerance, and operational excellence across services.

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers across multiple regions.

  • Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, and engineering best practices.

  • Continuously improve performance, scalability, security, and maintainability of our platform.

  • Participate in knowledge sharing across our global anti-fraud organization.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Professional experience in backend software development.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Professional working proficiency in English (Advanced or Fluent).

  • Strong experience developing applications in Java and/or Rust.

  • Experience designing and operating distributed systems.

  • Solid understanding of event-driven architectures and messaging systems (Kafka or similar technologies).

  • Experience working with relational and analytical databases.

  • Experience building applications deployed on cloud platforms (i.e. AWS).

  • Experience with containerized environments (Docker and Kubernetes).

  • Experience implementing observability solutions, including logging, metrics, and monitoring.

  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, code quality, performance, and security.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

 

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with Rust is a plus. We don't expect everyone to know Rust from day one, but we do expect curiosity and willingness to learn. Our team will provide the support needed during your onboarding and learning journey. 

  • Experience in fraud detection, cybersecurity, telecommunications, or messaging platforms.

  • Experience processing large-scale streaming data.

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Experience working in globally distributed engineering teams.
