Job Summary
IS International Services is seeking a Senior BESS Electrical Engineer to drive the engineering and technical review of utility-scale battery storage projects. In this fully remote senior position, you will own the electrical design process from concept through execution. You will mentor project teams, ensure seamless integration of low-voltage and medium-voltage components, evaluate balance-of-plant systems, and interface with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performing renewable energy assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Utility-Scale Design: Develop and review comprehensive engineering packages, including Single-Line Diagrams (SLDs), overall electrical layouts, grounding designs, and cable routing maps.
- Component Integration: Specify and integrate critical equipment such as Power Conversion Systems (PCS), battery enclosures, medium-voltage (MV) / low-voltage (LV) transformers, and switchgear.
- Technical Calculations: Perform and validate essential electrical engineering calculations, cable schedules, and sizing assessments for utility-scale systems.
- Multidisciplinary Coordination: Lead the integration of Balance-of-Plant (BOP) systems, collaborating across engineering disciplines to maintain technical accuracy and project alignment.
- Standards Compliance: Ensure all designs align with utility interconnection requirements and adhere strictly to NEC, NFPA, IEEE, UL, and IEC standards.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Core Experience: 8+ years of total electrical engineering experience.
- BESS Expertise: At least 3 to 5 years of direct experience dedicated to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Software Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience performing power system modeling and engineering studies using ETAP and SKM.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Integrator Background: Previous professional experience working directly with utility-scale BESS integrators is highly desirable.
- Licensure: A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required for this position.
- Compliance Knowledge: Deep, operational understanding of industry codes (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, UL, IEC) and the utility grid interconnection process.
- Professional Skills: Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote, cross-functional team environment.
