Job Summary/Basic Function:

Special Education Coordinator, Senior provides professional development training and technical assistance related to implementing statewide and local education agencies specific goals, prioritizing those efforts that result in increased academic achievement for students with disabilities.

This position may have the opportunity to work remotely, where all work is performed from an alternate work location within the State of Idaho.

Applicants will join a team of professionals with a variety of expertise in instruction, student support services, school leadership, STEM education, special education, school nutrition, program evaluation, and other topics.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:

● Assigns short-term and long-term tasks on a multitude of consulting projects, primarily facilitating organizational assessments and evaluations.
● Plays a pivotal role in a wide range of work assignments that may include: data collection, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, survey administration, report design, report drafting, and preparation of various materials for client presentations.
● Contributes to the preparation and presentation of status reports, program analysis, and implementation for clients.
● Plans and monitors ongoing project tasks.
● Influences policy and other research, specific to state and federal education/special education requirements.
● Participates in the production of materials required for work with clients, including agendas, analysis data, and status reports for management and for clients.
● Provides support and training to schools as they develop and implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
● Creates modules, guidance documents, and other training materials to support district staff, including special education teachers, related service providers, and paraprofessionals in the special education process.
● Provides direct distance-based and on-site consultation to school-based teams on behavioral and/or instructional support for students with disabilities.
● Provides direct and indirect consultation to special education directors, special education teachers, and staff to improve practices related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
● Supports statewide monitoring efforts and provides technical assistance and training to districts to achieve compliance and measurable results, including improved outcomes for students with disabilities.
● May perform other duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

● Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken language.
● Ability to plan, develop, and deliver in-person training to large groups of participants.
● Possess leadership and problem-solving skills; coaching experience.
● Ability to research, interpret, and incorporate new and complex information into guidance.
● Ability to collaborate with district staff to provide consultative, instructional and evaluative support, staff knowledge, and student achievement.
● Ability to maintain accurate, complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative request.
● Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Idaho special education process for children ages 3-21.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 5 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

● Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field.
● At least 3 or more years working in schools and with school teams.
● Certification as an Exceptional Child Generalist, Early Childhood Special Educator, Special Education Director, Pupil Services Staff, or BCBA/BCaBA.
● Experience with foundational principles of tiered academic and behavior intervention (RTI/MTSS/PBIS) frameworks and positive behavioral approaches in school settings.

Salary and Benefits:
