Solid Works Engineer (AutoCAD / Inventor)

Overview

A manufacturing company specializing in industrial mechanical systems is seeking a Contract Mechanical Design Engineer with strong proficiency in SolidWorks. The ideal candidate has a background in custom fabrication and is able to jump into active projects without the need for tool training.

This is a remote, contract-based opportunity. The company’s internal team already uses SolidWorks as its primary tool for all mechanical modeling and production drawings.

Responsibilities

• Use SolidWorks to create 3D models and detailed mechanical assemblies for custom-fabricated systems

• Generate shop drawings and production-ready documentation directly from models

• Ensure parametric modeling standards are followed for efficient design iteration

• Communicate effectively with in-house engineers to clarify requirements and expectations

• Manage your own workload independently with a focus on quick-turn execution when needed

Qualifications

• SolidWorks: 5+ years of experience using SolidWorks in an industrial or manufacturing context

• Ability to work autonomously and deliver high-quality mechanical designs with minimal onboarding

• Proficient in preparing manufacturing-ready drawings and assemblies

• Strong understanding of fabrication practices, tolerancing, and DFM principles

Nice to Have

• Experience in the custom equipment, automation, or packaging sectors

• Familiarity with AutoCAD (though rarely used in this role)

• Willingness to work on short-term, fast-turnaround projects
