SolidWorks Drafter / Mechanical Designer

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Drafters / Mechanical Designers to support a large-scale engineering project converting existing SolidWorks 3D models into production-ready 2D drawings.

Successful candidates will have hands-on experience creating detailed engineering drawings from 3D CAD models and a strong understanding of ASME drafting and drawing standards. Drawing assignments may include mechanical, electrical, and softgoods components.

This is an approximately 6-month contract assignment, with an immediate start preferred. At this time, the project is not expected to extend beyond six months.

Key Responsibilities

• Convert SolidWorks 3D models into detailed 2D engineering drawings
• Create accurate, production-ready drawings in accordance with project requirements
• Develop drawings for mechanical, electrical, and softgoods applications
• Apply appropriate ASME standards, GD&T, dimensions, tolerances, and drawing conventions
• Review models and engineering information to ensure drawing accuracy and completeness
• Identify discrepancies, missing information, or potential design/drafting issues
• Maintain consistency and accuracy across drawing packages
• Incorporate engineering revisions and drawing changes as required
• Collaborate with engineering and design teams to resolve drafting questions

Qualifications

• Professional experience creating engineering/manufacturing drawings
• Strong proficiency with SolidWorks
• Demonstrated ability to create 2D drawings from 3D CAD models
• Working knowledge of ASME Y14 drawing standards
• Understanding of GD&T, dimensioning, tolerancing, and engineering drawing practices
• Experience with mechanical drawings required
• Experience with electrical and/or softgoods drawings is a plus
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment
• Ability to work independently while meeting established project deadlines
• Must be a U.S. citizen

Work Location

Houston, TX – Preferred

Candidates located in the Houston area will be expected to work onsite at the customer facility.

Remote candidates may be considered. Remote employees will be provided with an Axiom-issued computer/equipment for the duration of the assignment.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced CAD drafter who can quickly take an existing SolidWorks 3D model and produce a complete, accurate 2D engineering drawing with minimal direction. Candidates should be comfortable working within established drafting standards and producing a high volume of quality drawings on a defined project timeline.
