What this position entails
The Software Engineer III is a critical contributor at the intersection of product engineering and data engineering, responsible for designing and delivering scalable backend services and data pipelines that power next-generation Insurtech products. As a member of the Data Curation team, you will be responsible for creating and modernizing solutions central to our most-used offerings based on market needs and product requirements. You will mix system-level thinking and hands-on development while partnering closely with software engineers, data engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver solutions that are scalable, compliant, and market-differentiating.
As a software engineer focused on prescription, health, and medical record data solutions, you thrive in fast-moving, modernization development and can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution to help us achieve product-market fit and scale. You will have the opportunity to help lead the development of new processes and workflows that will become the core of many products that drive efficiency, compliance, and value for our clients.
What you’ll be doing
- Design, build, and optimize data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, enrichment, and distribution of structured and unstructured data
- Develop event-driven and batch data processing systems using AWS-native services
- Integrate backend application services with data pipelines, ensuring consistency between transactional and analytical systems
- Modernize legacy systems into microservices and event-driven architectures in AWS
- Implement data reliability and quality mechanisms (validation, monitoring, observability, and error handling)
- Build and maintain data workflows and orchestration pipelines to ensure timely and accurate data delivery
- Ensure systems are designed for performance, scalability, security, and compliance
- Mentor engineers and contribute to raising the team’s engineering maturity and delivery quality
- Collaborate in SAFe Agile teams, delivering measurable outcomes aligned to product and platform objectives
- Support production operations, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of system performance
What we need
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering with significant focus on data pipeline development and backend systems
- Strong proficiency in C# (.NET) and SQL, with experience working with large-scale data systems
- Hands-on experience building and operating data pipelines and data processing systems
- Experience with AWS data and compute services
- Experience with microservices and event-driven architecture
- Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, and data lifecycle management
- Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD, GitHub workflows, and Terraform
- Working knowledge of Agile/SAFe delivery models
- Experience with full software development lifecycle
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills across both application and data layers
- Ability to design resilient, scalable, and observable data systems
- Proven ability to own pipeline reliability, performance, and data quality outcomes
- Excellent collaborative skills, work well independently and as a team member
- Proven analytical skills to interpret and implement business and functional requirements

Location
The expected application deadline for this job is August 15, 2026. This position is open to remote work. Applicants must be willing to travel to the Milliman office in Brookfield, WI as needed and travel nationwide for meetings, conferences, and team events.
Compensation
The overall salary range for this role is $104,900 - $199,065. For candidates residing in:
- Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York City, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia the range is $120,635 - $199,065.
- All other locations the salary range is $104,900 - $173,100.
A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
