Role Summary

We are looking for a Software Engineer with 1–3 years of experience in Core Java development, with good working knowledge of RDBMS/SQL and UNIX/Linux environments.

The candidate will work on a mission-critical Order Management System (OMS) used in Capital Markets trading platforms. The role will primarily involve backend development, issue analysis, bug fixing, support activities, and enhancements to existing OMS components.

This role is suitable for someone with strong programming fundamentals, an understanding of backend application development, and an interest in building domain knowledge in Capital Markets and trading systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, Test (QA), enhance, and maintain backend components using Core Java.

• Work on bug fixes, minor enhancements, and support items related to OMS applications.

• Analyse application issues using logs, database queries, and UNIX commands.

• Work with senior developers to understand design, coding standards, and system behaviour.

• Participate in unit testing, code reviews, and defect resolution.

• Support production issue analysis under the guidance of senior team members.

• Assist in root cause analysis for recurring application issues.

• Follow SDLC processes, coding standards, and release management practices.

Required Technical Skills

Core Java

• Good understanding of Core Java fundamentals.

• Knowledge of OOPS concepts.

• Good understanding of collections, exception handling, multithreading basics, and Java coding practices.

• Ability to write clean, readable, and maintainable Java code.

• Basic understanding of debugging Java applications.

Database / RDBMS

• Good knowledge of RDBMS and SQL.

• Ability to write basic to intermediate SQL queries.

• Understanding of joins, indexes, constraints, and stored procedures/functions at a basic level.

UNIX / Linux

• Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux commands.

• Ability to navigate directories, search logs, check processes, and perform basic shell operations.

• Basic shell scripting knowledge will be an advantage.

• Experience analysing application logs in UNIX/Linux environments.

Product Development

• Understanding of backend application development.

• Basic knowledge of enterprise applications and batch/service-oriented systems.

• Exposure to build tools, version control, and deployment processes is preferred.

• Basic understanding of performance, reliability, and production support concepts.

Preferred Domain Knowledge

• Basic understanding of Capital Markets, trading systems, or Order Management Systems is preferred but not mandatory.

• Willingness to learn trading workflows, order lifecycle, and OMS application behaviour.

Additional / Preferred Skills

• Exposure to messaging systems such as JMS/MQ will be an advantage.

• Basic knowledge of FIX protocol will be a plus.

• Familiarity with Git or other version control tools.

• Exposure to build tools such as Gradle, Maven.

• Basic knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.

• Understanding Agile development practices.

Production & Support Responsibilities

• Assist in application monitoring and issue investigation.

• Analyse logs and database records to support issue triaging.

• Work with senior engineers to identify root causes and implement fixes.

• Support KTLO activities such as bug fixes, minor enhancements, and operational improvements.

• Document analysis, fixes, and troubleshooting steps where required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• 1–3 years of relevant experience in Java backend development.
