And now we are looking for a Software Development Engineering Lead to join us as part of our team.

About Role

You’ll join the new engineering team focused on modernizing how high-value private market data is collected, processed, validated, and delivered. The team will work on scalable, observable data workflows that improve data timeliness, quality, traceability, and downstream availability across PitchBook’s data ecosystem.

PitchBook — a platform for investment professionals. Our software provides access to data and the analytical tools to get answers fast and discover promising opportunities. Uncovers actionable insights and trends hidden within the financial data of more than three million companies. Users all over the world include large corporations, start-ups, venture capital and private equity firms, investment banks, and many others.

Our tech stack

Java 17+, Spring/Spring Boot, Kubernetes, OpenAPI, PostgreSQL, Kafka, distributed systems, microservices, CI/CD, observability tooling, modern data platform integrations, and Gen AI-enabled engineering tools.

Work Environment

Flexible schedule with participation in team ceremonies and cross-functional collaboration. Time zone: Europe/Kyiv.

As a qualified expert, You will:

  • Lead technical delivery for complex data collection and processing workflows.
  • Own solution design, technical documentation, code quality, maintainability, operability, and production readiness.
  • Guide implementation of data ingestion, storage, validation, transformation, and provisioning capabilities.
  • Drive strong SDLC execution across refinement, design, estimation, implementation, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Improve team engineering productivity by adopting Gen AI coding tools and integrating them into practical SDLC workflows.
  • Promote effective use of Gen AI for code generation, test creation, refactoring, documentation, debugging, and delivery acceleration.
  • Establish engineering practices that balance AI-assisted development with code quality, security, maintainability, and human review.
  • Partner with Product, Data, Architecture, Platform, SRE, and other engineering teams to align scope, dependencies, and delivery plans.
  • Drive engineering practices such as code review, automated testing, observability, incident reduction, and CI/CD improvements.
  • Mentor engineers, support onboarding, distribute technical work, and help raise team performance.
  • Surface technical risks early and propose pragmatic mitigation options.
  • Contribute to hiring and help shape the technical capability of the team.

We’re looking for you if you have

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong Java expertise.
  • Experience leading technical delivery or mentoring engineers in a backend/data platform team.
  • Strong knowledge of Spring/Spring Boot, microservices, distributed systems, API design, and relational databases.
  • Experience with Kafka or similar messaging/event-streaming technologies.
  • Practical experience with Kubernetes and production-grade service operations.
  • Strong ownership mindset with focus on reliability, scalability, maintainability, and long-term technical health.
  • Practical experience using Gen AI coding assistants to boost SDLC or strong interest in learning this skill.
  • Ability to define pragmatic engineering guardrails for AI-assisted development, including review, testing, and documentation expectations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound technical decisions in complex domains.
  • English — Upper Intermediate or higher; Ukrainian — fluent.

  • Experience improving SDLC productivity through Gen AI tools, developer automation, or platform engineering practices.
  • Experience introducing AI-assisted workflows for code review, testing, refactoring, documentation, or incident analysis.
  • Experience in data processing domains such as data ingestion, processing, curation, validation, or publication.
  • Experience building platforms or services for workflow automation, data quality, or data operations.
  • Experience with observability, SLIs/SLOs, incident management, and operational excellence.
  • Experience migrating legacy workflows to modern data platforms.
