Position Summary

The Senior Vice President, Brand Strategy is a senior strategic leader responsible for shaping insight-driven brand strategies across Spectrum’s Communications Pillar, supporting pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, and select consumer accounts. This role helps clients address complex business challenges, build meaningful audience connections, and drive growth through differentiated, integrated strategy. Serving as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders and internal leaders, the SVP leads complex strategic engagements, partners across Client Services, Creative, Media, Analytics, and other disciplines, and develops strategy talent while setting a high standard for strategic quality and measurable impact.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead brand positioning, audience strategy, value propositions, messaging frameworks, and integrated brand strategies across complex pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, and select consumer engagements.
  • Translate business, market, competitive, cultural, behavioral, patient, HCP, and stakeholder insights into clear, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Connect strategy from insight through creative development, activation, customer experience, communications, and measurement.
  • Anticipate shifts in healthcare, science, culture, technology, and audience behavior to identify strategic opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior and executive-level client stakeholders across large, complex, and high-value relationships.
  • Lead high-stakes strategic discussions, workshops, presentations, and planning engagements with credibility and a clear point of view.
  • Build senior client relationships, constructively challenge thinking, and identify opportunities to expand the strategic partnership.
  • Balance client needs, strategic quality, commercial priorities, and the broader interests of the agency.
  • Partner across Creative, Communications, CTX, Media, Analytics, and other specialist capabilities to develop connected, omnichannel strategies.
  • Bring the right expertise together based on the client challenge and align senior internal and external stakeholders around strategic direction and priorities.
  • Ensure strategy translates into integrated execution, measurable outcomes, and meaningful client impact.
  • Identify organic growth opportunities by understanding evolving client needs, market dynamics, audience behaviors, and emerging opportunities.
  • Lead or play a senior strategic role in new business pitches, growth opportunities, and agency points of view.
  • Champion the thoughtful use of AI, analytics, research, and emerging technologies to strengthen insight development and strategic output.
  • Lead, coach, and develop strategy talent across large and complex Communications Pillar scopes.
  • Set clear expectations for strategic quality, collaboration, accountability, and client leadership.
  • Mentor senior talent, create opportunities for ownership and advancement, and make thoughtful resourcing decisions that support performance, retention, and business needs.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing culture that maintains quality as teams and scopes grow.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in brand strategy, communications strategy, marketing strategy, strategic planning, consulting, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in agency, consulting, healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or integrated marketing environments.
  • Proven ability to lead strategy across large, complex, or high-value client relationships, ideally across a full communications pillar or comparable integrated portfolio.
  • Demonstrated success advising executive-level stakeholders and influencing business and brand decisions.
  • Deep understanding of brand strategy, audience and behavioral insights, market dynamics, integrated customer experiences, research, analytics, and emerging strategy tools.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, developing senior-level talent, and connecting strategy to measurable client impact, retention, and organic growth.

The anticipated salary range for this position will be $190,000 - $260,000. Salary is based on job-related factors such as: years of relevant experience, qualifications and/or certifications. Spectrum reserves the right to modify this pay range at any given time.
