Senior Technical Specialist Architect

Responsibilities

Peraton's Department of the Interior (DOI), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) have identified a critical gap in the federal government's ability to conduct comprehensive Endangered Species Act (ESA) research. While FWS operates an authoritative web-based platform for managing data for terrestrial and freshwater species, it does not currently include NMFS marine and anadromous species data forcing agencies to rely on separate, manual processes. This program closes that gap by integrating marine and anadromous species data into the existing FWS platform, creating a single, unified experience for all ESA-listed species.

 

Peraton is seeking a Senior Technical Architect to support system integration design, technical documentation, and interoperability testing architecture on a federal data migration program. Working closely with the Technical Architect SME, you will lead key technical design activities and serve as a technical reviewer and documentation lead across the project.

This is a fully remote position supporting a 12-month period of performance with potential for follow-on work and possible placement in other programs across Peraton at the conclusion of the program.

Day To Day Roles and Responsibilities

 

• Support the Technical Architect SME in system architecture design, integration planning, and technical decision documentation
• Lead the design and documentation of source-to-target mapping specifications for ETL pipeline development
• Design the application integration architecture for federal species data, including API endpoint specifications, data access patterns, and decision logic integration points
• Develop and maintain technical architecture documentation including integration diagrams, data flow diagrams, and API specifications
• Lead interoperability testing architecture design, defining test coverage for API connectivity, authentication, data exchange protocols, metadata alignment, and end-to-end data flow
• Support the development of the production migration runbook, documenting technical cutover steps, validation checks, deployment sequences, and rollback procedures
• Conduct technical review of all code and pipeline deployments, enforcing peer review requirements
• Support compliance validation from a technical perspective, validating decision logic correctness and consultation routing accuracy

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

 

• Bachelors degree and 12 years professional experience or a Masters degree and 10 years professional experience or an Associates degree and 16 years professional experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and 18 years’ professional experience. 
• U.S. Citizenship required; must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
• Extensive experience in systems architecture or technical design on federal IT programs
• Experience designing API integration architectures and data flow documentation for federal systems
• Strong knowledge of federal IT governance frameworks and hybrid AWS cloud platform standards
• Experience with interoperability testing design and technical documentation
• Experience developing production migration runbooks including cutover steps, validation checks, and rollback procedures
• Familiarity with Git or equivalent version control platforms for technical review and code deployment oversight
• Experience with REST API design standards and API gateway patterns for federal system integration
• Proficiency in producing architecture artifacts including integration diagrams and API specifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or Enterprise Architecture or a related technical field is strongly preferred
• TOGAF or equivalent architecture certification
• Experience with Databricks, Delta Live Tables, or cloud ETL pipeline architectures on AWS
• Familiarity with FedRAMP, FISMA, or NIST SP 800-171 compliance requirements
• Familiarity with the IPaC platform or DKey consultation systems within federal environmental decision support tools
• Experience with DOI, FWS, or NOAA Fisheries IT environments
• AWS Solutions Architect or AWS DevOps Engineer Professional certification

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
