As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer in the Virtualization & Host Platforms (VHP) Core Linux Platforms (CLP) team, you will be at the forefront of Akamai Cloud hypervisor host technologies. Our team is responsible for the host Linux platform from the hardware to the host and guest platforms: kernel, operating systems, custom KVM/QEMU virtualization layer, guest images, and working closely with next-generation HW teams to ensure new hardware programs succeed in our datacenters. CLP is also pursuing an advanced CI/CD initiative to provide custom physical and virtual platforms to all Cloud infrastructure teams.

You will have opportunities to write software automating our processes, help diagnose and resolve challenging production issues, advance initiatives to improve resource utilization and customer experience, and learn from a highly skilled engineering team. This position will require creative thinking combined with deep domain expertise in the areas of Linux systems engineering, performance tuning, hardware interfaces, systems administration, and configuration management.

​​As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Developing, testing, and distributing changes to software, services, and tools.
• Developing subject matter expertise in VHP components.
• Developing CI/CD pipelines to drive a highly sustainable infrastructure platform supply chain for our rapidly growing Akamai Cloud fleet.
• Comfortable working in new tooling, code and environments and automating what’s possible.
• Collaborating with our support, operations and engineering teams to troubleshoot complex problems

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Possess expert level experience in Linux internals, system administration, and a deep understanding of underlying hardware.
• Possess advanced experience with the Linux kernel, OS, and optimization of their configurations for KVM/QEMU virtualization.
• Possess advanced level experience with designing, developing, and deploying software and infrastructure at scale.
• Advanced level experience in a Development or SRE role, preferably working with large scale distributed systems.
• Experienced with writing, modifying, and debugging Shell scripts and Python code.
• Experience with tools like SaltStack, Ansible, Kubernetes, Chef, or Puppet for managing infrastructure at scale.
• Have great communication and collaborative skills.
• Have relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
