You will assess, map, and migrate complex .NET services to a cloud-native AWS environment using containerization and infrastructure as code. The role involves designing safe migration strategies, such as blue/green deployments, to ensure minimal downtime for business-critical services.
SUMMARY:
We are looking for an experienced Senior .NET/AWS Cloud Migration Engineer to join a highly skilled engineering team migrating and modernising complex, business-critical services to AWS.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who combines a strong .NET software engineering background with current, practical AWS experience.
You will work across an existing service estate, understand applications and their dependencies, define migration approaches, and help move services safely into a modern, cloud-native AWS environment.
This is not simply a lift-and-shift project. The focus is on incremental modernisation, cloud-native engineering and safe production migration with minimal or zero downtime.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING:
As part of an agile software development team, you will:
Assess existing .NET services, infrastructure, integrations, data stores and operational dependencies.
Map service dependencies and identify the appropriate sequencing and approach for migration.
Design and implement cloud-native solutions within AWS.
Containerise and operate services using AWS ECS.
Build and maintain infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Work with event-driven and asynchronous architectures using technologies such as SNS, SQS, NServiceBus and RabbitMQ.
Plan and execute incremental migration waves rather than relying on traditional lift-and-shift approaches.
Design safe migration and cutover strategies for business-critical services.
Implement approaches such as blue/green deployments, parallel running, progressive traffic switching and rollback strategies.
Work closely with engineering teams and stakeholders to identify dependencies, risks and delivery priorities.
Improve automation, observability, documentation and overall operational readiness as services move into AWS.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Strong professional experience developing and operating production systems using modern .NET.
Recent, hands-on commercial experience with AWS.
Direct experience migrating production applications or services into AWS.
Strong practical experience with AWS ECS and containerised workloads.
Current hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
Strong understanding of event-driven and asynchronous architectures.
Production experience with SNS/SQS or comparable messaging technologies.
Experience delivering complex migrations involving multiple interconnected services and dependencies.
Strong understanding of CI/CD, automated deployments, rollback strategies and production readiness.
Experience executing production migrations where downtime was unacceptable or heavily restricted.
Ability to quickly understand an unfamiliar technical estate and turn discovery into an actionable migration plan.
Strong personal technical ownership; you should be comfortable explaining what you personally designed, implemented and changed, including the decisions and trade-offs you made.
Experience working on large-scale, high-availability platforms where production downtime has significant business impact.
Experience working in an Agile, cross-functional team
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT:
You will be working with technologies and concepts including:
.NET
AWS
ECS
Containers
Terraform
Infrastructure as Code
SNS / SQS
NServiceBus
RabbitMQ
CI/CD

IAM
AWS networking and load balancing
Logging, monitoring and observability

Experience with New Relic would also be beneficial.
NICE TO HAVE:
Hands-on experience with NServiceBus.
Experience with RabbitMQ.
Experience with New Relic.
Previous experience modernising complex or legacy .NET service estates.
