Senior Lawyer

🌎 Location: Remote in Spain or hybrid in Estonia

💰 Compensation: Up to 48,000 EUR gross annual, based on your experience and seniority level.

💡About the role:

We’re looking for a Senior Lawyer that is excited about expanding across different jurisdictions and figuring out “legals” for different product-related challenges, helping to build a stand-alone legal function in Xolo.

Xolo is on a mission to help freelancers do their business across the EU - this will bring challenges that will constantly change and evolve as we figure out best ways to support our clients. We are looking for someone that has strong project management and problem-solving skills to understand and find solutions to complex legal questions. We also need you to have previous experience related to corporate and tax law, or having been an advisor for startups before. Spanish legal experience isn’t required for the right person, but it’s a strong bonus that will make you stand out.

✍️As a Senior Lawyer at Xolo, you will: 

• Define legal requirements for our products as they develop, strengthen existing frameworks, and support expansion into new markets.
• Advise our operational teams on how to service our clients from markets/products under your “internal portfolio”.
• Keep an eye on relevant upcoming regulatory and legal developments beyond the product scope.
• Draft, review and negotiate all types of legal documents starting from partnership agreements to policies and vendor agreements.
• Advise and help our AML and GDPR teams with interpreting relevant guidance where needed, implementing and improving internal processes and risk management procedures.
• Contribute into establishing legal processes, such as contract management, compliance tracking, and due diligence procedures.
• Work with professionals across Operations, Growth, Product and Engineering teams and learn how a startup works from inside out.

• Have 5+ years of legal expertise in areas relevant to our industry, such as accounting, international taxation, corporate law, and financial partnerships.
• Enjoy working on a global scale with international regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.
• Get excited when given a chance to lead projects to identify and assess legal risks and create strategies and processes to mitigate them.
• Have excellent interpersonal skills.
• Have a strong interest in global expansion to new markets, assessing and mitigating risks associated with it, and establishing processes for compliant operations.
• Don’t get disheartened when you immediately don’t know the answer but rather get excited to own and then solve the problem.
• Have worked in a law firm, startup or financial services industry before.
