Senior II BigCommerce Developer

Company Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior II BigCommerce Developer who will guide the architecture of complex, scalable headless, omnichannel eCommerce solutions using BigCommerce. The ideal candidate combines consulting experience, strong architectural judgment with advanced development skills across BigCommerce, React.js, Next.js, Node.js.

During the initial proof of concept, this person will assess requirements, recommend technical approaches, define architecture and development standards, and advise the team on UI/UX flows, integrations, performance, and scalability. They will review designs and code, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute hands-on implementation when needed. 

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:  

Design and implement complex headless eCommerce solutions using React and Next.js integrated with BigCommerce. 

Guide the end-to-end technical architecture of BigCommerce implementations, including modular components, storefronts, APIs, integrations, data flows, security, scalability, and performance. 

Collaborate with the UI/UX team to define and validate an omnichannel storefront experience proof of concept, focusing on how users move between the administration portal, storefront, and other sales channels. 

Establish development standards, architectural patterns, and technical best practices for BigCommerce implementations.   

Lead and mentor developers to provide technical guidance. 

Conduct code reviews to ensure quality, maintainability, and adherence to standards.   

Identify root cause through proper troubleshoot and debugging across frontend, backend, APIs and cloud environments.   

Optimize performance, including frontend rendering, API usage, caching, and integration.   

Collaborate with designers, stakeholders, QAs and DevOps to ensure seamless project execution. 

Stay updated with the latest eCommerce trends, BigCommerce features, and industry best practices. 

Qualifications

Required Skills:  

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. 

• At least 10 years of experience in web development, with at least 5 years of hands-on BigCommerce development experience.  

• Advanced knowledge of BigCommerce architecture, platform capabilities, APIs, and eCommerce development. 

• Proven ability to design architecture of enterprise solutions. 

• Proven experience architecting omnichannel eCommerce solutions, including integrations and data synchronization across storefronts, sales channels, and backend systems. 

• Advanced experience with React.js and Next.js for modern headless storefront development. 

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Tailwind. 

• Knowledge of server-side languages such as Node.js. 

• Strong experience designing and integrating REST APIs, GraphQL APIs, webhooks. 

• Proven experience in database (SQL, NoSQL) design and management. 

• Prevoius experience with cloud development platforms such as AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud.   

• Experience with Git, code versioning, and branching strategies. 

• Previous experience with technical SEO best practices for eCommerce platforms.     

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. 

• Excellent planning, prioritization, and time-management skills. 

• Previous experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.   

• Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and self-driven approach.

• Ability to give and receive constructive feedback, and effectively coach and mentor team members. 

• Excellent English proficiency (C1 level or higher). 

 Nice To Have: 

• BigCommerce developer certification. 

• Software architecture course, certificate or certification. 

• Proven experience designing and developing dealer-based eCommerce sites. 

• Proven experience with design tools like Figma.  

• Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve development productivity, troubleshooting, and code quality while maintaining established engineering standards. 

• Experience with automated testing strategies for frontend, backend, APIs, and eCommerce workflows. 

• Experience with observability, application monitoring, logging, and production performance analysis.
