About the role

D-Wave is seeking a Senior FPGA Engineer to join our Quantum Systems and Technologies team. In this role, you will design and implement the signal processing and real-time control systems that connect our quantum computing hardware with the software that operates it.

We are looking for an innovative problem solver who is eager to take on challenging FPGA problems, take initiative, and contribute as a productive member of a small, collaborative team. You will have the opportunity to help shape our quantum processor control systems, contributing to highly visible, impactful projects that advance the future of quantum computing.

What you'll do

  • Design, implement, and verify SystemVerilog modules for low-latency, high-bandwidth signal processing chains that support quantum processor control
  • Develop FPGA-based real-time control and signal processing systems on AMD Xilinx Ultrascale+ platforms
  • Contribute to architecture discussions and decisions, collaborating upstream with quantum compiler engineers and downstream with RF hardware designers
  • Develop embedded software and Linux device drivers, including work with the Xilinx Pynq framework, to interface FPGA hardware with control software
  • Write clean, well-documented code, and participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and maintainability
  • Manage a complex toolchain and test/verification environment
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues, identify bottlenecks, and develop unit tests to ensure system reliability
  • Collaborate with software engineers, scientists, and hardware engineers to design and implement working solutions

About You

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of FPGA development experience with Verilog/SystemVerilog for synthesis and simulation
  • Experience with Python, with a focus on performance in embedded systems
  • Experience with Embedded C programming, with a focus on performant code
  • Experience with AMD Xilinx SoC platforms (e.g., Ultrascale+) and mixed-signal processing
  • Experience with system-level design, the Xilinx Pynq framework, and Pynq device driver development
  • Strong Linux skills, including system programming, device driver development, bash scripting, and configuration management
  • Competence with Git for version control, build tools, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong problem-solving skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced team environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a desire to learn from experienced engineers and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team
