Stand Together is a philanthropic community that helps America’s boldest changemakers tackle the root causes of our country’s biggest problems, from education to the economy, broken communities, and toxic division, among dozens of other pressing issues. We provide our partners with access to resources including funding, thought leadership, a network of peers, and a playbook for applying proven principles to transform lives and society.
The Senior Engagement Manager on the Be The People Experience & Activation team serves as the relationship and execution owner for one of BTP's two growth tracks — Regional Networks or Organizational Networks. Be The People is building a movement of 900,000+ leader ambassadors, and the growth that matters most happens on the ground, through the partnerships this role builds and holds.
The Senior Engagement Manager is the relationship and execution owner for their track — building and holding the partnerships that turn strategy into activation. On the regional side, that means working with local leaders and implementing organizations. On the organizational side, it means engaging national leader networks and affiliates. In both cases, the Sr. EM owns the full landscape of their track: developing context-specific engagement strategies and working closely with their Community Manager to run the convenings and touchpoints that build real community on the ground.
Year 1 is not about executing a known playbook — it is about building one. Each market and each partner is a discrete experiment designed to surface what makes activation work. The learning this role generates directly shapes how BTP scales its leader engagement strategy over time.
The Sr. Engagement Manager reports to the Director of Platform Growth & Leader Activation and manages a Community Manager.

How You Will Contribute
Relationship & Activation
- Own the relationship. Build and manage high-touch relationships with leaders, implementing partners, and key stakeholders across your track — whether that's local organizations in priority cities or points-of-contact within national organizational networks.
- Drive activation strategy. Develop and execute activation strategies tailored to the conditions of each market or network rather than applying a single model.
- Build the leader pipeline. Identify and recruit leaders into the BTP community, working alongside partners to accelerate onboarding and integration.
- Create reciprocal models. Build partnership structures and engagement approaches where partners and leaders feel genuinely connected to BTP's mission — not extracted for content or stories.
Execution & Learning
- Run activation touchpoints. Execute convenings, partner events, and leader onboarding moments in close coordination with your Community Manager.
- Generate the learning. Capture what drove engagement and what didn't — and feed that signal back into the operating model systematically.
- Build toward self-mode. Develop relationships and structures that create self-sustaining activation pipelines over time.
- Track what matters. Monitor progress toward activation goals and surface clear signals on what conditions enable self-sustaining growth.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate with Partner Engine. Work with the Partner Lead, relationship managers, and relevant colleagues to ensure activation is coordinated with broader partner and donor-engagement work.
- Connect across tracks. Partner with the other Sr. EM to identify where regional and organizational activation intersect and reinforce each other.
- Support platform adoption. Collaborate with the Platform team to ensure leader onboarding is smooth and the platform actively supports activation on the ground.
What You Will Bring
- Demonstrated experience managing high-stakes, multi-stakeholder partnerships in a civic, nonprofit, philanthropic, or corporate community context — where the relationships are the work, not a means to it.
- A proven track record as a partner manager who can hold complex relationships across organizations, community leaders, and institutional stakeholders simultaneously.
- Comfort working across multiple markets or partners at the same time, with the discipline to prioritize and the adaptability to respond to what each context needs.
- Strong listening and facilitation skills — the ability to earn trust quickly with diverse stakeholders and make them want to be part of something larger.
- Experience in a role where you had to build the playbook as you went — and did it.
- Willingness and ability to travel. Regional track — Frequent. Significant in-market presence across priority cities is a defining feature of the role — this is a road role. Organizational track — Regular. Consistent travel to partner headquarters, affiliate convenings, and network events.
- Enthusiasm to contribute to Stand Together's vision and principled approach to solving problems, and a commitment to stewarding our culture, which champions values including transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect.
Standout Candidates Will Bring
- Experience working with national organizations and their affiliate or chapter networks — understanding how those structures actually function and how engagement moves through them.
- Experience building local networks of nonprofit and business leaders — knowing how civic ecosystems are wired and how to activate them.
- Familiarity with BTP's priority markets: Atlanta, Grand Rapids, Wichita, and Philadelphia.
