Job Description

The Opportunity:

We, at Flywire, are seeking a Head of PMO, Engineering to establish and lead a centralized Engineering Program Management Office that drives operational discipline and execution across Flywire’s global technology organization.

This leader will partner closely with the CTO and engineering leadership to ensure Flywire’s most strategic technology initiatives are effectively planned, governed and delivered across globally distributed engineering teams. The Head of PMO will introduce structured program governance, operational visibility and cross-functional coordination across engineering, product and infrastructure teams.

This role is ideal for a strategic program leader who thrives at the intersection of engineering execution, operational rigor and large-scale technology transformation.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Program Leadership:

  • Lead execution of Flywire’s most complex and strategic engineering initiatives across multiple teams and regions.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment across engineering, product, infrastructure and operations teams.
  • Ensure major technology programs are delivered on time, within scope and aligned with Flywire’s strategic priorities.
  • Provide program leadership for large initiatives such as platform modernization, infrastructure transformation and major technology migrations including Certinia.

Program Governance and Execution Frameworks:

  • Establish and operate the Engineering Program Management Office (PMO) within the CTO organization.
  • Define standardized program management methodologies and delivery frameworks.
  • Create governance structures including program reviews, milestone tracking and executive reporting.
  • Implement program dashboards to track progress, risks and dependencies across engineering initiatives.

CTO Operational Leadership:

  • Serve as a strategic operational partner to the CTO in managing large technology programs and engineering execution.
  • Support leadership decision making by providing clear operational insights across major programs.
  • Drive operational rhythm across the engineering organization including program reviews, delivery checkpoints and strategic planning cycles.

Budget and Headcount Oversight:

  • Maintain visibility into engineering investments including program budgets and resource allocation.
  • Partner with Finance and HR to manage headcount planning and resource capacity across engineering programs.
  • Ensure engineering initiatives are appropriately staffed and resourced to achieve delivery milestones.

Cross-Functional Coordination:

  • Act as the central coordination point across engineering and key stakeholders including product, finance, security and infrastructure teams.
  • Identify and resolve cross-team dependencies that impact delivery of strategic programs.
  • Drive alignment between technical execution and broader company priorities.

PMO Team Leadership:

  • Build and lead a high performing team of Technical Program Managers and Program Leaders.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to TPMs responsible for major engineering initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency and operational excellence across the PMO function.

Qualifications

Here’s What We’re Looking For:

  • 12+ years of experience leading large scale technical programs within engineering organizations.
  • Proven experience building or leading a Technical Program Management Office (TPMO) in a high growth technology company.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and large scale platform engineering environments.
  • Experience managing complex multi team engineering initiatives across globally distributed teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring operational structure and program discipline to engineering organizations.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership and engineering leaders to drive strategic technology initiatives.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to manage program metrics, budgets and operational reporting.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $200,000-$245,000 plus bonus, and benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, position level, and location. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and several other factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education and training.
