Senior Data Engineer Interviewer

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join us as a Technical Interviewer. 

In this role, you will work closely with our recruitment team to assess candidates applying for Senior Data Engineering positions. You will be responsible for conducting technical interviews, evaluating both practical and architectural knowledge, and providing clear hiring recommendations based on a structured assessment.

Your Role at Sedona Digital 

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our interview team in a part-time capacity. In this role, you will conduct technical interviews, evaluating candidates' expertise in data engineering best practices, cloud architecture, and large-scale data solutions. 

The ideal candidate has extensive experience designing and delivering scalable data platforms and possesses a strong understanding of data engineering principles across one or more major cloud providers, such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). 

Key Responsibilities 

• Conduct 60-minute technical interviews for Senior Data Engineer candidates. 

• Evaluate candidates' hands-on experience across modern data platforms and cloud-based data architectures. 

• Assess technical depth, engineering best practices, problem-solving ability, and real-world project experience. 

• Explore candidates' previous projects through detailed technical discussions and follow-up questions. 

• Evaluate knowledge of data engineering principles, cloud architecture, scalability, security, governance, and performance optimization. 

• Assess candidates' understanding of data lakes, lakehouses, data warehouses, and modern analytics platforms. 

• Assess communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly. 

• Complete structured interview scorecards and provide hiring recommendations after each interview. 

• Collaborate with recruiters to ensure consistent evaluation standards. 

• Contribute to improving interview questions and technical assessment processes when needed. 

Required Qualifications 

• 8+ years of commercial experience as a Data Engineer. 

• Strong hands-on experience building and supporting data solutions on at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP). 

• Strong understanding of modern data platform architectures, including Data Lakes, Lakehouses, Data Warehouses, and Analytics Platforms. 

• Extensive experience designing, building, and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines. 

• Strong SQL skills and experience with data modelling, including facts, dimensions, star schemas, and semantic layers. 

• Experience with Python for data processing, automation, and orchestration. 

• Experience with distributed data processing technologies such as Apache Spark or equivalent frameworks. 

• Experience implementing secure authentication, authorization, and data security patterns within cloud environments. 

• Ability to evaluate both implementation details and high-level solution architecture. 

• Excellent spoken English. 

• Ability to conduct interviews professionally and provide objective candidate assessments. 

Preferred Qualifications  

• Previous experience conducting technical interviews. 

• Cloud certifications from Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform. 

• Experience with modern data technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Synapse Analytics, or equivalent platforms. 

• Experience with orchestration and transformation tools such as Airflow, dbt, Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, or similar technologies. 

• Experience with CI/CD practices and Infrastructure as Code. 

• Experience working in enterprise or highly regulated environments. 

• Tech Lead, Architect, or mentoring experience. 

• Experience designing and delivering data platforms across multiple cloud providers. 

Ideal Candidate 

We're looking for someone who is first and foremost an exceptional Senior Data Engineer with deep expertise in designing, building, and operating enterprise-scale data platforms on Microsoft Azure, AWS or GCP. This is not a purely theoretical role—we're looking for someone with extensive hands-on experience delivering production-grade data solutions who can confidently evaluate other senior engineers through structured technical interviews.
