The core responsibility is hands-on building of Power BI reports, dashboards, and performant semantic models for clients, while also setting the analytical direction and architecture for engagements.
About Us
Formula5 is a Microsoft consulting partner that takes on the hardest data and technology challenges in regulated industries — healthcare, life sciences, financial services, and energy. We hire selectively, deliver excellence, and give our people real ownership over the work they do. Our Data & AI practice is growing fast, and we need people who can lead from every seat.
The Opportunity
This is first and foremost a Power BI delivery role. You'll spend the majority of your time — 60 to 70% — hands-on building dashboards, reports, and semantic models for clients. The difference is that we also need you to think like an architect. You'll set the analytical direction for engagements, make design decisions that shape how data flows from Snowflake into Power BI, and ensure what you build is scalable, performant, and right — not just pretty.
We're hiring across multiple levels for this position. At the senior end, you lead architecture and delivery simultaneously. At the mid-level, you're a strong builder who's growing into that architectural mindset. Read on — if you see yourself in either profile, we want to talk.
What You'll Do
- Build Power BI reports and dashboards — this is the core of the role. You'll deliver polished, interactive analytics solutions that stakeholders actually use to make decisions
- Design and maintain performant semantic models that serve as the analytical backbone for client organizations
- Write and optimize SQL as a core part of your daily work — querying Snowflake, shaping data, and troubleshooting performance issues
- Collaborate directly with business stakeholders to translate ambiguous requirements into concrete, scalable reporting solutions
- Own data quality from source to visualization — you don't just consume data, you make sure it's right
- Set the architecture for the reporting layer — data modeling patterns, security design, deployment strategy, and version control — so the solutions you deliver hold up over time
- Work closely with data engineers on pipeline and warehouse design, ensuring that what's built upstream serves the reporting layer effectively
- Stay sharp on Power BI releases and bring new capabilities into client work before they become mainstream
What "Senior" Looks Like Here
You still build. A lot. The difference is that you also own the architectural decisions that make your deliverables — and your team's deliverables — excellent. You:
- Deliver complex Power BI solutions personally while simultaneously setting the technical direction for the engagement — you don't hand off the hard dashboards, you build them
- Partner with business users as a trusted advisor, not just an order-taker — you challenge requirements, propose better approaches, and drive alignment
- Architect the reporting and semantic layer end-to-end — from understanding the client's business problem through data modeling decisions to the final report in a stakeholder's hands
- Coordinate with data engineering teams to ensure the warehouse layer, transformation logic, and data contracts support the analytical goals
- Have deep experience with query performance optimization and can diagnose and resolve bottlenecks across the data pipeline and semantic layer
- Make confident design decisions around security frameworks (RLS, OLS), data modeling patterns, and deployment strategies
- Review others' work, set quality standards, and elevate the team's capabilities across projects
- Think beyond the dashboard — you understand how upstream data engineering choices ripple through to reporting accuracy and performance
What "Mid-Level" Looks Like Here
If you're earlier in your journey but building fast, you:
- Have solid Power BI development experience — DAX, data modeling, and report design are second nature
- Understand medallion and star schema architectures and have hands-on experience building and working within them
- Know how Import, DirectQuery, and DirectLake modes work — and their trade-offs
- Can implement RLS and have at least theoretical understanding of OLS
- Write SQL confidently — not just simple selects, but joins, CTEs, and transformation logic
- Are comfortable using LLMs and AI-assisted development tools to accelerate your work — we see this as a strength, not a shortcut, and we actively encourage skill-based development that leverages modern AI tooling
- Want to grow into architecture and data engineering — and you're already taking steps in that direction
Requirements
Essential
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Power BI development, business intelligence, or data analytics
- Strong proficiency in DAX and semantic data modeling
- Strong SQL skills — you write, optimize, and troubleshoot queries daily. This is a SQL-heavy role
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, medallion architecture, star/snowflake schemas, and ETL/ELT patterns
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, challenge assumptions, and deliver solutions
- Strong communication skills in English — you'll work with US-based clients daily
- Polish language proficiency and residence in Poland — you'll collaborate with a Polish-speaking team and need to communicate fluently in both Polish and English
- Comfortable working afternoon/evening hours to overlap with US time zones
Strongly Preferred
- Experience with Snowflake as a data source or core component of the data platform (yet it is not a must)
- Working knowledge of PBIP/PBIR and Git-based version control for BI assets
- Python skills — at least at an intuitive, working level for data transformation or automation tasks
- Understanding of DevOps practices applied to BI development
- Experience with deployment pipelines and workspace management in Power BI
- Familiarity with query performance analysis and optimization techniques
Nice to Have
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouses, Data Pipelines, Semantic Models, Notebooks)
- Hands-on work with Azure cloud services and data integration tools
- Knowledge of data mesh principles or modern data architecture patterns
- Background in business analysis (BPMN, process modeling, requirements engineering)
- Experience designing data platform architectures (not just consuming them)
